Road Trip To Oak Ridge This Saturday
This Saturday, November 16, 2013, the Sound Company, Oak Ridge's Children's Performing Choir will present a special concert featuring the Nashville Singers. The concert will be held at the historic Grove Theater at High Places Church, 123 Randolph Road, Oak Ridge. The two choirs will combine to sing a few songs, including "You Are the New Day", as performed by the King's Singers, and "Teach the Children to Sing" composed and arranged by Joe Liles. These two choirs last shared the stage in April of 2012 before an audience of 4,000 at the Titanic Museum and Attraction in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee on the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. Descendants of the passengers and crew were on hand to commemorate the event. Sound Company Children's Choir is a multi-age performing choir based in Oak Ridge, Tennessee directed by Katy Wolfe-Zahn, Terry Silver-Alford, Mariana Garciagodoy, and Kathy Gillenwaters. The company is comprised of over 100 children ranging from first through twelfth grades, from schools and communities in East Tennessee. Sound Company performs in Oak Ridge, Knoxville, and other areas in East Tennessee. Older members travel periodically to participate in competitions and concerts. Sound Company's repertoire is wide-ranging, and includes classical, pop, show tunes, folk songs, multi-cultural music, and more. Sound Company strives to encourage the pursuit of excellence and foster joy in music for performers and the community. Through a variety of musical genres, the directors educate children with choral singing skills, strong vocal technique, challenging choreography, stage experience, and ensemble performance proficiency. Sound Company was founded in 2003 as a non-profit performing arts ensemble. Tickets will be available at the door, or can be purchased in advance from a Sound Company member. For group ticket inquiries, please contact Rebecca Bowman through soundcompanyortn@gmail.com. For more information on Sound Company, visit www.soundcompanytn.net, call (865) 896-9760 or find Sound Company Children's Performing Choir on Facebook.

What Do These 13 Men Have In Common? Keith Brent, Brian Brown, Bruce Cokeroft, Mark Dahlen, Ric Domenico, Dave Mensel, Doug Morrison, Ev Nau, Harlan Wilson, Taylor Wilson, Todd Wilson, Wes Winchell, and Chris YatesOn November 13, 2008, this "baker's dozen" group of men gathered at the Harborview Clubhouse in Donelson for the very first meeting of the Nashville Singers. With President Bruce Cokeroft and Musical Director Todd Wilson at the helm, the evening included some tag singing, watching videos of the Westminster Chorus, and the Vocal Majority and of course, some singing. Songs included Home on the Range, The Irish Blessing, and My Lord & I. Six of those 13 men ended up becoming the first members of the ensemble. Those six are still active today.
Happy 5th Anniversary to the Nashville Singers!
To quote country music singer, Loretta Lynn, "We've come a long way baby!"Share this milestone with us by making plans to attend our rehearsal this coming Thursday evening. We'll be gathering at Whitworth Memorial Baptist Church at 7:00pm. The church is located at 3014 Elm Hill Pike, Nashville, TN 37214. Guests are always welcome. We'll be getting ready for our concert in Oak Ridge this Saturday. If you cannot join us but would like to share some anniversary good wishes, with the members of the chorus, send an email to todd@nashvillesingers.org.
