Governor Bill Haslam Honors The Nashville Singers
The Nashville Singers organization is celebrating our 5th anniversary in a few weeks, culminating with concerts in Nashville and Smyrna. These five years have been filled with many great accomplishments on and off the stage. But we're also just getting started. Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam has honored the Nashville Singers for five years of contributions to the State of Tennessee by designating November 23rd as "Nashville Singers Day" in Tennessee. We are grateful and humbled by this gesture.

Dash 5K/10K Race. The Nashville Singers were on hand at McGavock High School Stadium to perform the national anthem following the Mayor's remarks.
Mayor Dean's vision for improving the health of Nashville citizens is to have a city where the healthy choice becomes the easy choice for all residents. Since Mayor Dean took office, the city has invested more than $130 million in public infrastructure to support healthy, active lifestyles, which has included not only building new sidewalks and bikeways, but also community centers, parks, multi-modal streets and public health facilities. (from the Nashville.gov website)
Nashville Singers members Todd Wilson and Bryan Patrick finished the anthem and made a three minute change into their running gear for the start of the 5K Race. Wilson finished with a time of 35:33 and Patrick finished in under 40 minutes.
A great time was had by all. The Nashville Singers are grateful to our hosts, the Donelson-Hermitage Chamber of Commerce, especially Executive Director Leah Jack and President Jeff Syracuse.

Rodney Turner Retires After 30 Years with the NATCA
 | | (photo by Jennifer Wilson) |
Nashville Singers bass singer Rodney Turner retired as an air traffic controller after serving for 30 years. A few hours after our performance in Donelson for the DH Dash, a bunch of us traveled an hour north to Casa de Turner in Portland f or a big retirement celebration. The day included a gathering of many long-time friends, and co-workers, some fabulous barbeque pork, bounce houses, hayrides for the kids, and a few songs from the Nashville Singers. The icing on the cake was when Rodney's co-workers presented him with an amazing retirement gift, an extremely large, beautiful, and ornate belt buckle which brought a flood of emotion to Rodney. It was a great moment and a great way to honor a man who has enjoyed a great career keeping millions of air travelers safe.

Nashville Singers in Action
 | | Sloan Yarborough directing The Nashville Choir (photo by Todd Wilson) |
Covenant Presbyterian Church was filled with a standing room only audience on Sunday night, assembled to enjoy "Autumn Vespers - Musical Expressions of Beauty and Majesty" presented by the Nashville Choir. The event lived up to its name. The performance was filled with moving arrangements of classic, beloved hymns sung in a breath-taking sanctuary and featured the world premiere of "Behold the Lamb of God," an original work composed by the renowned Charles Heimermann. The Nashville Choir is an SATB ensemble. The choir was accompanied by an orchestra throughout the evening. Nashville Singers associate director Sloan Yarborough is also a member of the Nashville Choir and directed several stirring selections over the course of the evening.

Apolo gies for the Last Minute Cancellation of Opry Mills Mall Performance
As a very low risk a cappella singing group, our liability insurance policy has a very reasonable limit of $1,000,000 of coverage per occurrence. On October 29th, six hours prior to the 7:00pm performance we had scheduled at Opry Mills Mall, a rep from the mall called to request a copy of our Certificate of Insurance. Our insurance company sent it to them right away. Three and a half hours later, Opry Mills called and informed us that our coverage would need to be doubled to $2,000,000 if we were going to sing at the mall that evening. Our insurance company was willing to raise our limit, but needed to hear from us by 4:30pm to get the change processed in time. By the time we gave up pleading our case with Opry Mills, we missed that deadline. But it also seemed ludicrous to our leadership to take on an unbudgeted expense for a performance we were donating to the Opry Mills Mall. We requested a waiver of this high limit, but our request was denied. The Nashville Singers organization apologizes for any inconvenience this cancellation caused for our singers and our attendees.
As a follow-up, a rep from the Opry Mills Mall called a few days later and apologized for the way things were handled. They extended an invitation for us to schedule another performance and agreed to waive the $2,000,000 coverage requirement.
We are considering their offer.
