Our New Christmas CD Is Already Earning Some Attention!
Every week, people ask me "Why is a cappella becoming so popular?" To which I respond "It has always been popular. It was the first music, and through its many incarnations - chant, madrigals, hymns, classical choral, barbershop, doo wop, and now contemporary pop (to name a few) - it has an uncanny ability to bring people together, to spread harmony through harmony." The Nashville Singers embody the best elements of this timeless tradition, both stylistically (you can hear elements of all the styles listed above in their sound), and emotionally. People want to hear vocal music during the holidays because it reminds us of interpersonal harmony, community, and humanity. These guys sing with an unbridled honesty and an effortless blend. They remind us what is possible when there is a shared commitment to excellence.
Deke Sharon, music director and arranger for the musical comedy film Pitch Perfect, producer and arranger for NBC TV's The Sing-Off For more about Deke's work in the field of a cappella music, visit his page on Wikipedia. |

Bruce Cokeroft - The Interview
Q1: If you ruled the world, what's the first thing you would change?
I would seek first to change my own heart in positive ways in order to be deemed fit to rule.
Q2: If you could give your 10-year old self one piece of advice, what would it be?
Practice, practice, PRACTICE, and never give-up the piano.
Q3: If this were a to-do list, what's the first thing that would be on it?
Finish answering all of these questions.
Q4: If this were the last day of your life, what would you be doing?
Sitting on a beach or overlooking the mountains with my sweet wife, Kellye, thanking God for the life adventure He's given us, and spending time with my family.
Q5: If you could rid yourself of one personal fear, what would it be?
Heights
Q6: If in your dreams you could have created any one great work or art- a song - a painting - a movie by another artist, what would it be?
To have created anything by Norman Rockwell or Maurice Ravel
Q7: If you could have any other talent, what would it be?
The ability to produce or direct a movie
Q8: If you could take back one sentence you've ever spoken, what would it be?
I once told my mother I hated her (darn those teenage years).
Q9: If you had a super-power, what would it be?
Flight
If you had coined a single phrase of wisdom, what would it be?
Unfortunately, this is a five-way tie:
- "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy path." (Soloman/The Holy Bible)
- "Never take yourself (or anyone else) too seriously. (unknown)"
- "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." (President F.D.R.)
- "When the going gets tough, the tough throw-up." (I may have coined this one)
- "It is better to have loved and lost than never to have lost at all." (Lester "The Old Roadhog" Moran/The Statler Bros. parody)
