News 2's Dawn Davenport to Host Matinee Concert
Dawn Davenport joined the News 2 sports team in July of 2008 as a sports reporter and anchor.
She was born in Plano, Texas, but basically grew up in Atlanta (Peachtree City) Georgia, where she became and remains a loyal fan of the Atlanta Braves. Her father graduated from Duke University and her mom and dad raised both her and her brother to LOVE Duke Basketball!
Despite her mom's encouragement to attend her alma mater, The University of Georgia, Dawn made the right decision and graduated with honors from Auburn University in December of 2002, with a degree in Mass Communication/Radio Television, Film and a minor in Theatre. She played volleyball at Auburn and was a two-time SEC Academic All-American. You can always find her cheering on her Auburn Tigers in every sport!
Before landing in Middle Tennessee, Dawn started her career in Wilmington, North Carolina, and then Richmond Virginia where she was a part of a sports department that won the AP Award for Best year-round Sports Coverage twice. She loves to find unique local sports stories-if you have any ideas, let Dawn know!
In her spare time, Dawn enjoys working out, watching and playing all sports, and is still trying to become decent at that pesky game of golf! She loves to travel anywhere warm, and also enjoys mentoring with various children's programs.
Dawn now anchors News 2 This Morning.
She joined the Nashville Singers advisory board earlier this year and will serve as our host at the Season of Harmony matinee concert in Smyrna on Sunday, November 24 at 2:30pm.
The Nashville Singers are very grateful for her support of our mission.

Fifteen members of the chorus gathered at Playground Studios on Saturday morning to record some tracks for our upcoming CD project. The cuts captured included Birthday of a King, Believe, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, Lo How a Rose E'er Blooming, Silent Night, Conventry Carol, plus our closing song, just because we could. The best of the bunch will be included in our next release, slated for the fall of this year.

Member Profile - Paul Gentry
| | Paul Gentry | Growing up in the Upper Cumberland region of Middle Tennessee, a cappella harmonies are some of Paul's earliest memories. Going to a "Singing" always elicited excitement and anticipation of the sounds and fellowship associated with such gatherings. Singing was a staple on a social level and in worship, thus harmonies were practiced and polished. On Sunday afternoon family gatherings, invariably one of the cousins would begin a melody. The others would join in, each singing a complimentary harmony. Traveling song ministers would visit the local churches to teach sight reading by a method known as "shape notes". The faithful would eagerly congregate for these workshops to learn the method and sing a cappella gospel songs well into the night. This emphasis on a cappella music and the joy that comes from singing has always been one of Paul's singular pleasures. Paul sang tenor several seasons with the Music City Community Chorus, directed by the renowned Renee Grant-Williams. He enjoys coaching his sons' baseball teams, reading, vegetable gardening and of course singing.

This Day in Music
July 29, 1956 - Carl Perkins was on the UK singles chart with his debut UK hit 'Blue Suede Shoes'. Johnny Cash planted the seed for the song in the fall of 1955, while Perkins, Cash, Elvis Presley, toured throughout the South. Cash told Perkins of a black airman whom he had met when serving in the military in Germany. He had referred to his military regulation air shoes as "blue suede shoes." Cash suggested that Carl write a song about the shoes.

Quote of the Week
Look at a day when you are supremely satisfied at the end. It's not a day when you lounge around doing nothing; it's a day you've had everything to do and you've done it." - Margaret Thatcher
