Nashville Singers Awarded Grant Funding
The men of the Nashville Singers were treated to a visit by Beverly Scott on July 1st (a special night Tuesday meeting) where she announced that The Nashville Singers, Inc. has been awarded a $1,300.00 operations grant by the Metropolitan Nashville Arts Commission for FY2013-2014.
Beverly has been working behind the scenes on our behalf as a contract grant writer since December of 2011. She has submitted three grant proposals for us to date, but this was the first to receive approval. Thank you Beverly!
For FY14, MNAC is awarding $1,890,200.00 to 51 local nonprofit
 | | Beverly Scott |
organizations (up from 42 in FY13) for 76 projects and programs (up from 64 in FY13). This is the largest number of grants Metro Arts has ever awarded, in spite of a recent trend of diminishing funds. The MNAC believes these grants represent an investment in Nashville's creative infrastructure by supporting high-quality, accessible, and innovative organizations and projects. Competition for Metro Arts' funding increased significantly, with $4,061,709.00 in eligible requests (a 17 percent increase over FY13), but our funding increased by only 1.24 percent. With nine new applicant organizations and larger requests from many organizations whose budgets have grown, arts funding is more challenging than ever. |

Member Profile - Taylor Wilson
| | Taylor Wilson of the Nashville Singers | Taylor Wilson's love for music is no accident. His dad and his grandfather are both International Quartet Champion singers. Taylor joined the Barbershop Harmony Society in 2003 and quickly earned a Southwestern District Chorus Championship with the 90-voice Houston Tidelanders. After relocating to Kenosha, Wisconsin with his family in 2005, Taylor joined the Brotherhood of Harmony, a chorus based in Schaumburg, Illinois. He competed with that ensemble at the 2006 International Chorus Contest in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Before graduating in 2010, Taylor played trumpet and was the captain of Nashville's award-winning McGavock High School Marching, Symphonic, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Bands. He was also a member of McGavock's premier singing group, Soundbytes.
Taylor has worked at Nashville Shores for six years in various capacities, as a lifeguard, and an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician). He still works as an EMT, but has been promoted to Operations Manager of the Treetop Adventure Park and Campgrounds at Nashville Shores and is also on the sales staff of both attractions.
When he has any free time, he enjoys playing his ukelele and writing songs. Taylor is one of the four founding members of the chorus and serves Nashville Singers as baritone section leader, visual performance coach, and on the music evaluation committee. He received the Best Attendance Award from Nashville Singers for 2010.
