Rainy Weather Didn't Dampen Our Patriotic Spirit
 | The Nashville Singers with Nashville Sounds mascot Ozzie (photo by Grace Thomson)
|
Just over a baker's dozen members of the Nashville Singers made their way through rush hour traffic on Friday night to Greer Stadium to perform the Star Spangled Banner for a home game of the Nashville Sounds baseball team versus the Memphis Redbirds.
The evening was special for a number of reasons:
1) Everyone in attendance honored the passing of country music icon George Jones with a moment of silence 2) We got a photo with Nashville Sounds mascot "Ozzie." 3) Brand new member Clay Bailey (5th from the right) made his performance debut with the chorus. 4) We rolled out a brand new tag for the anthem arranged by our own Ric Domenico. Thank you Ric for taking the initiative and producing learning media for the chorus on short notice. 5) The performance went off without a hitch. In fact, one of the team's managers in the dugout made a point to shake the hand of the each of the singers and remarked, "That's the best performance yet!" 6) We had Nashville Singers artistic staff member Grace Thomson with us to capture some photos of the event. 7) The Sounds won the game. Tied 1-1 with two outs in the ninth inning, the Nashville Sounds benefited from a balk charged to Memphis reliever Jorge Rondon to score outfielder Sean Halton from third for the 2-1 win over the visiting Redbirds. If you haven't attended a Nashville Sounds game, YOU SHOULD! Click here to check out the 2013 schedule.

Kind Words From One of Our Grant Winners!
Dear Mr. Wilson:
On behalf of the choral department at I.T. Creswell Arts Magnet, I want to extend my sincere thanks to you and your committee for choosing I. T. Creswell as a recipient for the 2013-2014 Music Makes a Difference Grant Award.
We are completing a wonderful year of music making at I. T. Creswell Arts Magnet. At our school we think music is basic to life. It is an artistic language that helps the human connect imagination to expression; it cultivates the whole child.
We look forward to working with your organization and establishing a professional mentoring relationship with our young singers. Your dedication in supporting music education is evident and has laid a cornerstone in the foundation of arts development at many local schools in the greater Nashville community.
Thank you again for being a strong advocate of music in our schools, your patronage to the arts, and to our music program. Your support will truly benefit our students in many ways. You help us make a positive difference.
With appreciation,
Nita L. Smith, Music Specialist

Todd Wilson Joins the Staff of Big Brothers Big Sisters
Nashville Singers has been blessed to have Sarah Beatty from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee serving on our advisory board since January of 2012. As an advisory board member, she has helped our organization as a donor, through two invitations to perform at the Franklin Wine Festival, with public relations assistance, and as the chair of our 2012 silent auction. We are very grateful for her contributions.
Some of you may not know that full-time employment has eluded your editor since the downturn in the economy led to the elimination of my department (and others) at the Barbershop Harmony Society in June of 2009. I've been limited to a handful for short-term, part-time consulting contracts. However, I am pleased to report that this Wednesday, I will be joining the staff of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee as a Development and Events Specialist, and will be reporting to, you guessed it, Sarah Beatty. For years, my personal mission has been to unleash the potential of the people and organizations around me. The Big Brothers Big Sisters mission is providing children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported, one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. I have admired their important work for years and am extremely grateful for the opportunity to help fulfill this noble mission. We're Taking Our Show on the Road!
On the evening of November 16, 2013, the Sound Company, Oak Ridge's Children's Performing Choir will present a special concert featuring the Nashville Singers. The concert will be held at the historic Grove Theater.
The two choirs will each perform sets on their own, but will also combine to sing a few songs, including "You Are the New Day," as performed by the King's Singers. These two choirs last shared the stage in April of 2012 before an audience of 4,000 at the Titanic Museum and Attraction in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee on the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. Descendants of the passengers and crew were on hand to commemorate the event.
