Meet One of the Newest Members of our Team

Alix Alix Brody-Waite is a Special Projects Coordinator for Hands On Nashville. Nashville Singers has engaged Alix and Hands on Nashville to assist us with the planning and execution of our 2013 Season of Harmony Concerts.

Alix brings an extensive and diverse background in event production, grassroots outreach/marketing, strategic planning and fundraising. In 2005 she began her career working as a regional fundraiser and event planner for Governor Bredesen's successful 2006 reelection campaign. Upon completion of the campaign she served as an event coordinator for his Inaugural Ceremony and Finance Reception. In 2008 she was hired as a Senior Associate at April Orange & Associates, a full scale fundraising and event planning firm based in Nashville. During her time there she coordinated numerous conferences, fundraisers, and policy events for political candidates and national organizations. Deciding it was time for the next step in her career she became Project Manager for Mayor Karl Dean's inaugural 'Mayor's Walk 100 Miles Program' as featured in the HBO documentary Weight of the Nation. As part of the four month healthy living initiative she and her partner, Tara Tenorio, coordinated 29 individual walking events and engaged over 4000 participants over the course of the project. The program culm HON inated in a finale celebration and concert for over 2000 people, which featured recording artists Jo Dee Messina and Melinda Doolittle. As a follow up to the "Walk 100 Miles" initiative she coordinated the inaugural "Mayor's Couch to 5K" program, which involved planning 250 individual training sessions at 22 sites throughout Nashville over a 3 time period. The successful project concluded with a 5K downtown with over 6000 people in attendance. Alix currently works as Special Projects Coordinator at Hands On Nashville, managing a variety of special events including, Hands On Nashville Day month and the Strobel Awards.

Quote of the Week     admiral

"Leadership must be based on goodwill. Goodwill does not mean posturing and  , least of all, pandering to the mob. It means obvious and wholehearted commitment to helping followers. We are tired of leaders we fear, tired of leaders we love, and of tired of leaders who let us take liberties with them. What we need for leaders are men of the heart who are so helpful that they, in effect, do away with the need of their jobs. But leaders like that are never out of a job, never out of followers. Strange as it sounds, great leaders gain authority by giving it away." - Admiral James B. Stockdale

No Rehearsal This Week!
Question of the Week!

singer

Q: I see you guys have recruited some new members in the past few weeks. What is your audition process like?

A:The Nashville Singers audition is broken down into six elements:
  1. Range: Those auditioning will be asked to start singing a scale from the lowest note in their range on a "La" vowel all the way to the very top of their range.
  2. Vocal Quality: The singer performs a song of their choice a cappella.
  3. Intervals: The person conducting the audition plays on a piano or sings twelve different sets of 3-5 note intervals. The singer is asked to mimic these notes and intervals correctly.
  4. Ability to Harmonize: The person conducting the audition will play the melody line of a familiar song like "You Are My Sunshine" on the piano. The singer will be asked to woodshed or improvise a harmony part "above" the melody line from start to finish. He will then be asked to improvise a harmony part "below" the melody line from start to finish.  Having all singers able to harmonize is critical as the repertoire and arrangements of the chorus often pass the melody line to the other parts.
  5. Rhythm: The person conducting the audition sings or plays on the piano a series of different rhythms. The singer is asked to (sing) mimic each of these rhythms.
  6. Sing a Song in a Quartet: The candidate sings a song of his choice (with or without sheet music) from the existing chorus repertoire with three others singers.
