Many of Music City's Music Makers Were Busy on October 27
The men of the Nashville Singers had an action-packed Saturday. The day began with a gathering at Cumberland Park for a 35-minute performance at Nashville Sings. We had the honor of sharing the stage with the Fisk Jubilee Singers, Nashville in Harmony, the Music City Chorus, the MET Singers, the MNPS Elementary Chorus. I T. Creswell Arts Magnet Middle School Choir, the William Henry Oliver Middle School Choir, and Noelle LaRae.
Though the cold weather and wind dampened attendance, the elements and even occasional train whistles did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the attendees to the sounds of the musical ensembles that shared their talents.
This event was part of the month-long Artober celebration presented by the Metro Arts Commission.

 | | Nashville in Harmony |

From there, most of us traveled to Carrabba's Grill in Green Hills for some warmth, sustenance, and camaraderie.
 | | Session (from Belmont University) | The we ventured across the street to Hillsboro High School for a performance at the 1st Annual Hillsboro High School Music Festival. In addition to Nashville Singers, the concert featured performances by Hillsboro SophistiCats, Belmont's female a cappella group Session, Rocky Block, Call Me King, the Hillsboro Players, and Danny Myrick.
The event was hosted by Billy Block. The Billy Block Show is second only to The Grand Ole Opry and Midnight Jamboree as Nashville's longest running LIVEconcert series. It has become the Ellis Island of Nashville welcoming newcomers of all musical genres from rock to rockabilly & blues to bluegrass. Block has become a Nashville icon with his shock of silver hair and ever-present smile. |
Attention Music Educators Fundraising Opportunity for School Music Programs For every ticket you or your students buy or sell for our Season of Harmony Concert on November 17, Nashville Singers will pay your school $5 and require that the funds be allocated to your music program. A Memorable Moment That Bears Repeating from Lenny Farmer
Every year we take a trip to the mountains, specifically our favorite place, Gatlinburg, Tennessee, rent a chalet for about 12 people, and just have a great time for about four days enjoying the Fall color changes. Rarely do we see bears, but make no mistake about it, we constantly scan the country side for a possible sighting.
This year was certainly different than the rest. On two different occasions we had a momma bear and three cubs pass by our chalet. But the most "exciting" episode happened as we were packing on Sunday morning, October 7, preparing for our journey home. I was carrying out a box of food to the car, and as I passed through the front door, there he stood. A black bear on all fours right beside the car. Well, needless to say, I sat the box down, took out my Android Epic, turned on the camera and began taking pictures.
As you can easily see by the four photos, "he" was a curious beast of the forest. He went directly to the open trunk, which led me to believe this wasn't his first rodeo, and began his search for a morsel from some possible picnic basket. Finding no immediate satisfaction, he decided on a closer look and simply jumped into the trunk, and were it not for my loud whistle, he would have bear-handled the suitcases out of the trunk and dug a little deeper. After my whistle, he jumped down, and simply sauntered off, in search for his next opportunity.
Everyone in our party had a great few days away in the mountains, but the final minutes of our stay proved to be the most endearing and memorable.
