I am a former enlisted Marine and the son of a retired Marine Officer. Military appreciation and traditions run deep in my family. Setting goals, working hard, and completing the mission are the foundation and basis for any Marine. I have always had the goal to run the Marine Corps Marathon. I started training for the MCM in 2012, but after a foot injury I deferred to 2013. I healed my foot and started training again, with my goal set to run the MCM 2013. After plenty of training, I successfully ran the MCM last year. I was emotionally touched every step of the race. Everywhere I looked, I was encouraged by the will and determination of the injured men and women participating in the marathon. Within hours of finishing the race, I was already planning MCM 2014. I learned about the Semper Fi Fund charity during my experience at MCM 2013 and decided that I would run for and directly support a charity that helps the injured men and women of our military. It is with great pride that I am able to associate myself with such an outstanding and worthwhile cause. I do not run for any one person, but for everyone who has ever felt the need to say "Thank You" to the members of our beloved United States Military. It is for all those, past and present, who serve in roles of defenders and protectors of our beautiful United States of America that I unconditionally respect and have dedicated my MCM 2014 experience to...in short, I say "Thank You and Semper Fi!"

Greetings!
Our MCM fundraising is now over $130,000! This is an amazing start. Let's keep the momentum going and make this 10th Anniversary year our best ever!!
The needs of our wounded continue to grow. Many service members will need long-term assistance as they adjust to lives that are forever changed due to the extent of their injuries. We rely on the generosity of our donors to support our wounded heroes and their families during some of their most difficult days. Every donation, both large and small, from corporate gifts to individual contributions, DOES make a difference!
All the best,
Elizabeth O'Connell & the
Semper Fi Fund

Lance Corporal
Robert "Drew" Mendez
The first time Drew saw an example of the brotherhood of the Marine Corps, he was about 8 or 9 years old in his home town of Kingsville, Texas, just south of Corpus Christi.
"I was raised by my grandparents," Drew recalls, "and they owned a bar. I used to go over there a lot in the summers, count the quarters from the pool table, help clean up, that sort of thing. My grandpa served in Korea, he was a member of the 1st Marine Division, and he used to wear a 1st Marine Division hat.
