Runner Spotlight
Meet Dawn Donadio
After running my first marathon in May 2013, I was determined to run the NYC marathon. I knew that I wanted to run
this race with a charity; a charity that had a connection with our military. After searching the list of available charities I was pleased when I found the Semper Fi Fund. After reading about SFF, I knew I just had to run for them. I quickly contacted them, and couldn't have been more excited when I got accepted.

With my cousin being a member of the Navy Recruiting District Jacksonville currently deployed in Afghanistan with the Regimental Combat Team 5, I wanted to really make him proud.

I quickly started training knowing that NYC is a hard course. As the miles got longer there were plenty of times when I thought to myself  "why are you doing this again?" but I continued to push through.  There were times when the torn tendons in my knee made me wish I was sitting on my couch, but I knew I just couldn't give up. I made the decision to do it, and not crossing the finish line just was not an option.

While running through the streets of NYC proudly wearing my Semper Fi Fund shirt people kept thanking me for running for the military.  I can't even guess how many times I heard "My son is overseas now! Thanks for the support!"  No words can describe how amazing that feels.

After crossing the finish I just knew I wanted to run the MCM, and I knew I wanted to run with the Semper Fi Fund. I cannot wait to proudly put on my red team shirt and run the streets of DC with the Semper Fi Fund once again.

Hero Story
Specialist Four Tyler Jeffries, U.S.Army

Growing up in Zephyr Hills, Florida, Tyler Jeffries seemed to be on a fast track to living every young boy's dream. With the ability to throw an 87-mile-per-hour fastball in high school, Tyler had a promising college baseball career in front of him. A spot on a major league team seemed well within reach.
Fundraising Tips
You could name this fundraiser whatever you would like and hold it during any month.
  • Set your goal at 100 people and have each person donate $25
  • Every day of the month you choose, draw a name from the 100 people involved. Each day the person drawn wins $25
  • The names drawn on Fridays win $50.

So here's the math:

100 x 25 = $2500 income. Payout 27 days at $25 = $675 and payout 4 days at $50 = $200 (27 + 4 = 31 days in March). Therefore, the income of $2500 minus the prize money of $875 = profit of an easy $1625.
