January Field Operations Update
New Year Resolutions
Happy New Year to all of you! As we begin the year, I hope we will all resolve to continue to work the big Field issues of AFA: Membership, Leadership/Leadership Development, and chapter health. We made progress in all of these areas last year, but it takes a continued dedication to stay on the upward path. Do the best you can to recruit and retain members, lead your organization, find and train your replacements, and get active participation in your chapter's activities. Together, we can fix this!
Process Review
One of the undertakings of the Field Council this year is to do a review of our planning and reporting processes. As we transition those to newer technologies this year, it makes sense to do a sanity check on how we do business and make adjustments if warranted. If you think you have a better way for chapters to report which will simplify or streamline our current process but still keep rigor in the system (measureable objectives), let us know what those are. Pass your suggestions through your State and Region presidents to me and we'll work the issue. We are looking for process improvement, so come with solutions and new ideas.
Annual Plans
If you don't have your annual finance and activity plans in and approved, you're late. Support payments will stop and your chapter will be considered inactive until these requisites are complete. Annual rosters and reports are the price of admission for an AFA charter.
Hope to see many of you next month in Orlando.

AFA Membership Committee Update
By now your chapter should have finalized its 2014 membership goals and selected people to help achieve those goals. If your chapter hasn't, what's holding you back? If your chapter has those goals, are you ready to measure your progress and account for your success? Membership recruiting and retention must be deliberate efforts across the chapter to make membership programs work and to grow chapters. Make it a great year for your chapter by engaging your current members in your growth efforts and welcoming your new members to our great Air Force Association.

New Exceptional Service Award for Family Programs
The reorganization of AFA national staff has brought a renewed focus onto our commitment to serve the needs of our Airmen, spouses and the greater Air Force family. The success of this effort rests with our grassroots structure to determine and serve the needs of our Airmen and families at the local level. We are proud to announce a new ESA for Family Programs to recognize the work being done by the Field in this area.
