General & Livestock Information
4-H Enrollment:
Clay County 4-H enrollments are being accepted. The enrollment fee is $35. Please call our office at 262-2264 if you need any assistance enrolling in 4-H Online. FSQA TestingAll 4-Hers exhibiting animals (except Dog or Horse) MUST have FSQA training or testing. More information can be found on our website. Clay County FSQA Trainings:April 27th 4pm-6pm at Royal Community Building June 9th 6pm-8pm at 4-H Exhibit Building, Fairgrounds RSVP here or call 712-262-2264.
Testing is available Monday-Friday from 10am to 3pm for 4-Hers in 7th-12th grade. Appointments must be made by emailing ajepsen@iastate.edu. Study material is available here. State Fair SwineThere will be NO Derby contest at the State Fair this year or State Fair Weigh In. Families must stop by the Extension Office to pick up ear tags, tag their animals, have them verified and return information to the Clay County Extension office by May 1st, they need to be in 4-H Online before May 15th. A maximum of 20 market pigs may be tagged and identified. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Poultry Layers Order 4-H members who wish to compete in the Hy-Line Layers class will be given 15 chicks. Hy-Line will arrange for a group hatch and are donating the 15 chicks per participant.
The sign-up deadline is April 4th at NOON. Please call 712-262-2264 to request your chicks. Pick up will be approximately the week of April 7-11. Please call Hy-Line before arriving.
Project members should identify Hy-Line layers in 4-H online. In breed list Hy line layers and use hatch date provided by Hy-Line. At fair entry time each exhibitor will be allowed to enter two pens of three layers. Judging criteria for the layer class will include: quality and uniformity of birds and exhibitor's knowledge of commercial layer production (i.e. birds, eggs, nutrition, environment, etc.)

County & District Opportunities
Community Compassion
Clay County 4-Hers have a chance to raise money and support for a community service project of their choice during the Clay County Fair. The Clay County Extension Office is now accepting entries for the 2014 Community Compassion competition for clubs, members or groups of members.
To enter the competition by July 31, please include on a sheet of paper your name, club name, phone, email and in 500 words or less describe your project idea. For more information email joengel@iastate.edu. The winning entry will have a banner on display in the 4-H Exhibit Building during the Clay County Fair.
Meet the Challenge
Attention all Clay County 4-H Clubs: Are you going to Meet the Challenge in 2014? This is a great way to engage in some friendly club competition!
Pocahontas County Fair
Once again the Pocahontas County Fair invites all 4-H and FFA members in 4th -12th grade in neighboring counties to exhibit livestock at the 2014 Pocahontas County Fair. The complete fair book will be available April 1 at www.extension.iastate.edu/pocahontas. The Plunge
The Intermediate PLUNGE! Adventure to the Iowa 4-H Camping Center is for 6th-8th grade youth from Region 1 in Northwest Iowa who want to build friendships, strengthen their leaderships kills and have fun! We will board a chartered bus on April 25th after school and return home on Saturday night, the 26th.
