FSQA Testing
All 4-Hers exhibiting animal (except Dog & Horse) MUST have FSQA training or testing. More information can be found on our website.
Clay County Trainings: April 21 from 4-6 in Royal May 6th from 6-8 in 4-H Auditorium
Testing is available Monday-Friday from 10am-3pm for 4-Hers in 7th-12th grade. Appointments must be made by emailing me. Study material is available here.
Regional 4H Bunny Bonanza
April 13, 2013 10 AM to Noon
Dickinson Co. Expo Center in the Community Room on the Dickinson Co. Fairgrounds (North of HyVee in Spirit Lake)
Bring your bunny to this Bunny Bonanza! Committee members will help 4-Hers with present concerns about Nutrition/Feed Issues, General Care (clipping toenails, cleaning, etc.), Housing Concerns & Carrier Building, County Registration Dates/timelines.
If you are wanting to build a carrier. Please call Kristi Peck at 712-260-3200.
Prices for the carriers are as follows:
Single (8"x 16") $17.00
Doubles (16"x 20") $29.00
Triple (16"x 24") medium to large rabbits $33.50
Triple (12"x 24") dwarf and small rabbits $29.00
Please let her know what size you are wanting to build. She will need to collect the money by March 20 for the carrier so she can have your pre-cut carrier there and ready for assembly.
Poultry Layers Order
4-H members who wish to compete in the Hy-Line Layers class will be given 15 chicks. Hy-Line will arrange for a group hatch and are donating the 15 chicks per participant.
Sign-up deadline is March 25th at NOON. Please call 712-262-2264 to request your chicks. Pick up will be the week of April 8-12th. Please call Hy-Line before arriving.
Project members should include Hy-Line layers on poultry identification forms and have them on file in 4honline by May 15. At fair entry time each exhibitor will be allowed to enter two pens of three layers. Judging criteria for the layer class will include: quality and uniformity of birds and exhibitors knowledge of commercial layer production (i.e. birds, eggs, nutrition, environment, etc.).
State Fair Swine
There will be NO Derby contest at the State fair this year or State Fair Weigh In. Families must stop by the Extension Office to pickup ear tags, tag their animals, have them verified and return information to Clay County Extension office by May 1st, they need to be in 4-H online before May 15th. A maximum of 20 market pigs may be tagged and identified. NO EXCEPTIONS.
