Westside Avenue Action
Alert

October 2012
Stakeholder Workshop #2 Scheduled for Nov. 8

The next stakeholder workshop for the Westside Avenue Action Plan takes place:

When: 4-6 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 8

Where: Westside Community Center, 1628 W. Bijou St.

Citizens requiring special ADA accommodations to participate in the workshop should call 719.629.7566.

During Stakeholder Workshop #2, participants will be asked to review alternatives developed based on feedback during the first workshop Aug. 6 and reinforced by community reaction to concepts presented during the first community open house attended by more than 70 people on Sept. 18.

Westside residents offer their input on corridor issues during the Sept. 18 Community Open House.

"Feedback from stakeholders and the community during our first two meetings was extremely valuable and certainly reinforced what we know about the corridor and what improvements residents and business owners would like to see on West Colorado and Manitou avenues," said Andre Brackin, El Paso County's Westside Avenue Action Plan project manager. "The community values and the corridor issues identified by stakeholders and confirmed by the public have made it easier for the project team to develop alternatives for the next phase of the study."

The public meeting summary is available on the Westside Avenue Action Plan website. The summary includes comments from some participants and charts that summarize public feedback on issues such as number of travel lanes, bike lanes, traffic speeds and landscaping and aesthetics. The document also includes images of all the boards displayed during the Sept. 18 meeting.

Stakeholders and the community also are encouraged to submit suggestions and thoughts using the web-based comment form.  Comments will be reviewed and considered by the project team and compiled in the project team's final report.  While the next meeting is a Stakeholder Workshop, the public is welcome to attend.
