President Teresa Hancox, looking no worse for the wear after her very special debunking on Saturday, opened the meeting celebrating her few remaining weeks. And, as a result of her performance at the debunking, she has nearly mastered the The Four Way Test!  Butch Benda was rewarded with an opportunity to share a little about himself after pulling together his outstanding meeting team.  He is originally from Anthony, New Mexico, moving to Las Vegas in 1983.  In his past life he was a hot air balloon pilot and now serves as a Regional Partner with Sonic Drive-In.  Butch is married to Michelle and has two children.  He was sponsored by Past Pres. Roger Tabor and has enjoyed his time in Rotary and the new friends he has made.

Announcements:

  • Thank you - From Pres. Teresa a huge thank you to Past Pres. Albert Guida and Laura for opening their home for an udderly wonderful debunking and to the past presidents who delivered a great program.
  • Membership Mixer - an evening at Super Summer Theatre on Wednesday June 24th is our next mixer.  Bring your family, friends and prospective members, not to mention your favorite beverages and a food item.  We will meet at the covered area for fellowship and dining and then move to the pre-arranged blanket area for the remainder of the evening.
  • Summerlin Patriotic Parade - Saturday, July 4th.  Past Pres's Lane Kay, Linda Bertuzzi and Robin Smith, along with Mandy Manuela are representing our Club as balloon wranglers.  If you are interested let either Linda or Robin know.  There's a rumor there will be Bloody Marys!

Cross-fines:

To Butch for confusing Rotarian with Rototarian (and maybe Roto-Rooter?); to Pres. Elect Michael Woodfield for skipping out early the week before; to PP Robin for "missing" PP Roger at the debunking (he was there); multiple to Past Pres. Lane Kay for scarring Monti Levy for life with his legs in full view at the debunking; to Rob Goldstein for being a "closet butcher"; to Rob and Past Pres. Drew Levy for looking at PP Lane's legs; and finally a paid fine by Past Pres. Dulcinea Rongavilla for Pres. Elect Elect Kevin Wool's quick A/C repair through First American Home Warranty.

Program:

George Zanatta of Impact for Coaches was on hand to give us a little mid-year coaching boost for our lives and businesses.  The most powerful coaching tool is asking rhetorical questions to help drive personal improvement and business growth.  Some of the questions to ask on a regular basis are:

    • Do you have a clear, concise goal?
    • Do you know your fears and have you faced them?
    • Have you admitted your mistakes?
    • Have you learned to reinvent yourself?
    • Have you review your performance - weekly, monthly, etc?
    • Do you use your time wisely?
    • Do you reinvest 10% of your profits?
    • Do you demand integrity from yourself?
    • Do you contribute beyond yourself?

Books and seminars abound to help with your journey, and also the iTunes University with thousands of free downloads led by Ivy League professors.  You can learn more by visiting George's website and can also find him on YouTube and Facebook.

Committee Reports

May Birthday Bash

Birthday Bash Captain Rob Goldstein found himself surrounded with 15 very eager birthday kids at the June Bash, with popping balloons and giggles filling the room. These kids come from the local area schools, including Booker Elementary, 100 Academy, and Agassi Prep and seemed to bond instantly when brought together to celebrate their special day.  Pizza, cupcakes and bottomless gift bags delight the kids each month, making this event one of our member's favorite hands-on programs. Thanks to members who participated - Kevin Mills (The Eggman), Rusty Bridges, Past Presidents Drew Levy, Lane Kay (the Turkey), and Linda Bertuzzi.

President Teresa's Debunking

In keeping with LV Fremont Rotary tradition, President Teresa's debunking was, well, another one for the record books.  In a mooooving tribute to her year, we dressed her in a cow costume and hubby Mike escorted her to her throne of hay.  Surrounded by her farmers, each past president took an opportunity to read their portion of a carefully prepared script by Past Dist. Gov./Past Pres. Roy York as she readied to move out to pasture for her retirement.  She had mastered The Four Way Test by the end of the evening, thanks to a lot of failed attempts, forcing her to drink a shot of milk.  It seemed to get better as a little Bailey's was added to the milk and she finally completed it perfectly! Thanks to the PP Albert and Laura for opening their home, to Immed. Past Pres. Robin Smith for herding up the presidents and members and to PDG/PP Roy for yet another memorable script.

Disaster in Nepal

With hundreds of thousands of people displaced and homeless, RI President Gary Huang issued a statement expressing Rotary's commitment to help provide short term disaster aid and long-term recovery and rebuilding assistance to Nepal. Rotary has an international project partnership with ShelterBox, a non-profit disaster relief organization that provides ruggedized containers with portable shelters, water filters, and other necessary emergency equipment and supplies.  RI President Huang is requesting Rotarians or Clubs who wish to support the emergency relief efforts in Nepal consider making a donation to ShelterBox. District 5300 will be collecting donations from clubs and/or individuals who wish to contribute to ShelterBox.  Donations may be made online or sent to the District 5300 (please mark all checks for ShelterBox)
