President Elect Michael Woodfield stepped in to lead our meeting this week during President Teresa's absence and did a "fine" job. Our usual opening rituals were kicked up a notch when Marilene Nevins passed out our song - "The Hokey Pokey" - which we all performed fairly well. Past President and Charter Member Jim Main provided a great meeting team and shared a little about himself. He joined the newly chartered Las Vegas Fremont Rotary Club in February, 1986, serving as President in 1987-88. He is a CPA and founding partner of a boutique accounting firm, Main Amundson and Associates, with his life-long friend and partner, John Amundson. He has been married to his wife April Stearns Main for 32 years and they have a daughter Kaitlin, and twin sons Mike and Matthew.

Christina Moon, Program Director for Miracle Flights for Kids, was our featured speaker. Miracle Flights is a national charity with Las Vegas roots. Founded in 1985, Miracle Flights for Kids is a national, 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization dedicated to helping low income very sick children overcome financial obstacles that prevent them from accessing proper medical care and second opinions .The core program provides airline tickets for families to travel to medical treatment facilities anywhere in the continental US at no cost. The agency also covers life skills needs, such as providing assistance dogs. Their key partners are Southwest and Frontier Airlines. The charity is always in need of donated miles, as well as dollars. Christina stated on of the best things we can do for them is to continue to spread the work about the organization and bring more awareness to others about what the services it provides. JDRF Ambassadors Indoor Soccer Event
A big shout out to our Fremont Rotarians for spending their Sunday afternoon hosting the 3rd Annual Indoor Soccer Social for the JDFR Ambassadors. I would also like to thank Meir and Kyle for donating the field and for Phil and his staff for helping out with the event. Even though we had the soccer field for an hour, the kids wanted to play dodgeball and kickball. We never played soccer but the kids (and adults acting like kids) had a ball anyway!
January Agassi Birthday Bash
Past Pres. Paul Bell served as the Birthday Bash Captain for his third month in a row, providing pizza and juice, along with a little bit of fun. This is one hour a month worth sharing with these deserving kids at Agassi Boys and Girls Club and it's especially fun as we celebrate in the Las Vegas Fremont Rotary Reading room, establish in 2011. February's Bash is on the 18th - we are looking for a captain. If it's your birthday, step up and share it with these great kids!
2015 Block Party
With the Block Party just a few months away, the Committee is moving full speed ahead with planning and organizing our biggest fundraiser of the year. The most recent committee meeting was extremely productive and great new ideas are being implemented to provide more visibility to our very important sponsors. Chairs Terry Wong and Colleen Malany will have updates for the members at the next meeting. In the meantime, they are asking everyone to bring in the sponsors and start selling the tickets which are being printed. The first three charities benefiting from the Party will be JDRF, Alzheimer's and Down Syndrome, with more grants being accepted throughout the year by the Downtown Rotary Charitable Fund. As in the past, Platinum sponsor is $5,000, Gold is $3,000, Silver is $1,500 and Bronze is $750. Another great addition this year will be the ability to sell raffle tickets ahead of time and our guests will not need to be present to win. Get ready to party!!!

2014-15 Presidents Advance
District 5300 Presidents Advance Chair Linda Bertuzzi of the Las Vegas Fremont Rotary Club, along with co-chair Raghada Khoury of the Apple Valley Rotary Club, organized and led the recent Advance at Green Valley Ranch. In an effort to make the weekend ALL about the Presidents, each one was provided with a questionnaire to assess their needs at a club level and this information established topics for all of the break-out sessions on Saturday. The attendees, which included many presidents-elect, rotated to new groups throughout the day, meeting and interacting with many leaders they had previously not met. They left with pages and pages of notes and ideas to share with their clubs - in fact, one President was so excited about her experience, she called her Public Relations chair at 10:00 on Saturday night! Robin Smith of the Las Vegas Fremont Rotary Club was also on hand, organizing the Governor's Hospitality Suite and tending the wine & vodka bar.
