Thirty days and counting as Madam President Robin Smith approaches the end of her year as the leader of the Greatest Club in the Universe. Her debunking is in the planning stages and promises to be one for the record books. June 28th - don't miss it!

Our visiting dignitaries included:
Dennis Prater, son (& bodyguard) of Past Pres. Gary Prater
Josh Crackow, former member of Las Vegas Sunrise Rotary
Monti Levy
Susan Bush

This has been the year of the "pin" and Pres. Robin presented two more Rotary pins to members Butch Bender and Membership Chair Michael Woodfield as a thank you from Rotary International for their sponsorship of new members in our club. The yellow color on the collar of the pin indicates one new member sponsored for the Rotary year, and the color will be updated as new members are sponsored by each Rotarian.

Our previous Polio Pig has gone off to greener pastures and we will be using the Polio Snifter until a new one is purchased. The donations of $703 were retrieved before its departure and the dollars will be sent to support Rotary's ongoing efforts to eradicate Polio around the world.

Past President Jim Main gave a brief recap of the May Birthday Bash and said he had a great time with the kids, and then made a small admission that he may have "accidentally" cheated during the sticky hands game. Based on the fact that the winners were, in fact, the kids, it would seem that all ended well.

It's been a while since there were any Presidential Recognitions, so Pres. Robin had to dig into the archives for this one..........Recognition to Past President Gary Prater for the birth of his new grandson - LAST December! Congrats PP Gary & Jana on your newest grandbaby.

The club's traditional birthday "hum" was performed for member Kevin Mills and guest speaker Simon Keith, after which Simon remarked "that was overwhelming. The talent in this room is..........." Thank you Simon for recognizing our musical talents.

And then it was time for cross-fines - multiple to Past President Roger Tabor for holding up the valet parking line before the meeting for 11 minutes, which prompted PP Roger to fine those same members who didn't try to open his new car; to Simon Keith for being Sean Kay's first soccer coach and making the experience so memorable; to Michael Woodfield and Past President Geoff Holmes for not knowing who was supposed to wear what on Wednesday; to Past Presidents Drew Levy and Geoff for "sort of golfing"; to Steve Reiter for a great time at golf on Friday, in spite of the forced consumption of alcohol.

Simon Keith of the Simon Keith Foundation (and former member of our club) returned to update us on organ donations. Simon holds the distinction of being the first athlete in the world to play a professional sport after undergoing a heart transplant. He was just 21 when, in July of 1986, he received the heart of a 17 year old boy, who ironically died while playing soccer in England. A world class soccer player prior to the operation, Simon was determined to return to "his normal" and after playing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) for two seasons, he was drafted number 1 overall into the Major Indoor Soccer League just three years after his surgery. Now one of the longest living organ transplant recipients in the world and most notable professional athletes of his time, he travels cross-country captivating audiences with his "moments of truth" speeches and daring people to live. In 2011, he founded The Simon Keith Foundation, an organization dedicated to increasing organ donor awareness and educating transplant recipients. He also joined the Nevada Organ Procurement Organization, which in 2011 was in jeopardy of disbanding. It is now the number one organization, not only in the US, but in the world. The organization was rebuilt, transforming the OPO from 53 Organ Donors in 2011 to 75 in 2012 and 104 in 2013. Currently nearly all transplants are done outside Nevada as only kidney transplants are available at UMC. Simon believes more state-of-the-art programs will be coming in the near future that could change the face of organ transplants forever, as well as additional additional programs being made available in Nevada.
