Fremont Street

 Greetings!

It took a few extra taps on the bell by President Lane Kay to bring a packed room to order.  We had near record member turnout for this special meeting, along with six guests of Rotarians -

Patty Saavedra, guest of Membership Chair Mike Woodfield
Cindy Rodriguez, guest of our President,
Imran Answar, guest of Cameron Christianson,
Jerry DiSomone, guest of John McInerney
James EckesVicki Hanson, guests of Pres. Elect Elect Ray Jansma.

President Lane shared a long list of reminders, with the upcoming District Conference and Agassi Birthday Bash being at the top of the list. President Lane and Asst. Gov./Past Pres. Linda Bertuzzi (10-11) are the only two members of the Club who will be attending Conference and, based on stories from past conferences, we can only hope they will behave themselves and bring back some well-deserved awards for our Club.  Make certain to check the "Save the Date" block below for more important events and speaker info.

President Lane moved on to recap the Easter Seals Rotary at Work Day and award some Presidential Recognitions - to Steve Reiter for securing the dumpster that was stuffed almost beyond capacity, to Ray Jansma for donating the sprinkler and irrigation repair items and to Butch Benda for his extraordinary. and sometimes a little scary, prowess with the chain saw.  An additional recognition was given to Past Pres. Dulcinea Almazan (11-12) who reportedly had a great time at a recent bachelorette party - something about blue wigs and we weren't able to get the rest of the story, which is so typical for Vegas!

Block Party follow-up was given and once all income has been received, all expenses paid out, and the final tally is confirmed by the Foundation, we will announce the very successful results.

And, then we had a long, crazy list of $1.00 cross-fines - to Past. Pres. Roger Tabor (02-03) for passing his song duties off to our guests, The Phat Pack, to Butch for providing the chain saw at Easter Seals, to Past Pres. Drew Levy (91-92) for not showing up at Easter Seals because of honey-do chores, to Past Dist. Gov./Past Pres. Roy York (95-96/09-10) for failing to greet Mr. Woodfield's guest, to AG/PP Linda for "saving" Pres. Lane from himself on a recent facebook post, to Pres. Lane for mis-texting "I'll be home soon honey" to Mike Woodfield instead of his wife, a self-fine to Marilene Nevins for her granddaughter Demi's cheerleading team winning the National Finals (congrats Demi!), to Past Pres. Scott Stolberg (07-08) for winning a large County scrap metal bid, and finally, the big money maker with multiple dollars - to Pres. Lane for looking entirely too relieved after heading up his next to last Board meeting.  And, Past Pres. Al Guida (94-95) wore, in good humor, the fox stole & hat for his fines on the President.

We were treated to not one, but two special performances by a local trio who 2013 Phat Pack is taking Las Vegas by storm!  The Phat Pack was one of the entertainers at our recent Block Party, thanks to member Colleen Malany Braid, and then joined us for lunch, where we were treated to even more incredible harmony.  The Phat Pack is a fairly new Las Vegas show.  After multiple performances on Broadway and performing with touring companies in Phantom, Les Miserables and Forever Plaid, Bruce Ewing, Ted Keegan & Randal Keith found themselves faced with the closing of Phantom in Las Vegas and an uncertain future.  Meeting over breakfast at a local IHOP they decided to "take matters into their own hands and create something".  They had never sung together before and didn't know if they could pull it off.  After months of practice and armed with a few special songs written for their show, they held their first performance in a small, local venue to a sellout crowd.  They were invited to perform at The Smith Center, again to a sellout crowd, and ultimately landed their own showroom at The Plaza Hotel & Casino, where they perform Wednesday through Sunday.   The trio did not want to just sing, they wanted to tell their stories and share their musical influences with the audience -  their unique songs and performances do just that.  "It all started with a dream!"  Check out their website at Phat Pack and their facebook page to follow them as they perform throughout Las Vegas.

Projects - Ronald McDonald House Dinner Service

Headed by Projects Chair Rob Goldstein, LV Fremont Rotary Club members will be gathering on June 20th at the Ronald McDonald House located at 2323 Potosi St, Las Vegas, to serve the families who are staying at the facility during their children's medical evaluations and treatments at local hospitals.  Something as simple as a home cooked meal can reduce the stress of worrying about the expenses of or where to get their next meal.  It brings them to a common table with new friends and volunteers to take a little of the burden of their shoulders.  This opportunity has a limited number of spaces available.  Contact Rob at [email protected] if you have questions or are interested in volunteering.
