SPAIN'S ROBIN HOOD RESTAURANT' CHARGE THE RICH AND FEED THE POOR
From NPR As Spain reels from it financial crisis, a new restaurant, run by a Catholic priest, lets paying daytime customers foot the dinner bill for homeless people to dine with dignity. On a frigid winter night, a man wearing two coats shuffles into a brightly lit brick restaurant in downtown Madrid. Staff greet him warmly; he's been here many times. The maître d' stamps his ID card, and the hungry man selects a table with a red tablecloth, under a big brass chandelier.
The man, Luis Gallardo, is homeless - and so are all the diners, every night, at the city's Robin Hood restaurant. Its mission is to charge the rich and feed the poor. Paying customers at breakfast and lunch foot the bill for the restaurant to serve dinner to homeless people, free of charge.
It's become Spain's most sought-after lunch reservation. The restaurant has poached staff from luxury hotels. Celebrity chefs are lining up to cook once a week. For paying clients, the lunch is fully booked through the end of March.
A dinner patron chats with Father Angel (right), who says that he wants homeless people to "eat with the same dignity as any other customer."
The restaurant opened in early December, and is run by an 80-year-old Catholic priest, Ángel García Rodriguez, whom everyone knows simply as "Padre Ángel."
"I want them to eat with the same dignity as any other customer," Father Ángel says. "And the same quality, with glasses made of crystal, not plastic, and in an atmosphere of friendship and conversation."
Outside, there's a sign listing the house rules: Patrons are allowed to sing as they please, as long as it doesn't disturb other customers. They can use the free wifi and borrow a cell phone if they need to make a call. They're free to bring their own food and order only drinks, if they prefer. Or they can take over the kitchen for a birthday party or other special celebration.

PRAYERS of the PRESBYTERY
| | |
Before praying , read Psalm 27:
Dear Lord, Father of our Savior, Jesus Christ: the Nation has just sworn in a new President, a few days ago. A new administration is assuming the reins of government, and many new faces have taken places in the seats of Congress. As this nation experiences these changes, I pray for President Trump, his Cabinet, and the Law Makers of our land. They face a daunting task: to govern a people who are divergent and opinionated, in the midst of a world filled with adversity. Give them your peace, and assure them of your love. I pray through Christ my Lord. Amen.
January prayers provided by Rev. Louis Sandos, Honorably Retired

The Art of the Flourishing Congregation
The Art of the Flourishing Congregation is another great opportunity. Council encourages congregations to put together working teams to engage for the day.
The workshop is sponsored by the Center for Congregations on Thursday, March 16, 2017 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM (Eastern Time) at Morris Inn on the Notre Dame campus in South Bend. Each team of three or more attending the day-long workshop is encouraged to identify a challenge or opportunity in their congregation, then address that opportunity together during breakout times with tools and coaching. Center for Congregations says attendees at this interactive workshop will:
- learn the benefits of positive change;
- explore how to hold and manage the three life-giving capacities that contribute to positive change;
- learn the five practices that promote positive change; discover how to assess the presence of the five practices currently in your congregation;
- experience the resources/processes that facilitate positive change;
- create a concrete and practical plan for affecting change and addressing challenges using positive change resources and practices.
Cost of this gathering is $50 for a congregational team of three or more registering together.
What great resources! We hope to see many of you in attendance.

 No More "Church as Usual" - Inviting God to Do a New Thing (or Two)
A 90-minute presentation by Nate Phillips February 14, 2016 - 2 p.m. ET (1 p.m. CT)
The mainline church has a morale problem. Nate Phillips, author of " Do Something Else," will guide a discussion on where churches can look for encouragement. This webinar will encourage faith communities and their leaders to reconsider "church as usual," reengage Spirit-led entrepreneurialism and reimagine new models of ministry bubbling up in your midst. Many churches and leaders are already setting the pace. They are establishing new gatherings in old buildings and using new buildings to do old things. They are emphasizing diversity, welcome, and friendship. If these stories are hidden from view, they shouldn't be. Through this webinar, we will - Uncover how these new expressions got started,
- How they are led,
- How they struggle, and
- How they are sustained.
Who should attend? This webinar will encourage candidates for ministry who see limited options, ministers who wonder about staying in ministry, call-seekers trying to find hope in a desolate career landscape and churches attempting to manage staffs with limited resources. It will also offer permission to small churches resigned to be "without a pastor," larger churches looking to do a new thing in an unorthodox way and middle governing bodies who need promising examples of working models in order to take the risk on new opportunities. Webinar (with on-demand replay) - $29.95 (1-6 participants) Click Here to Learn More
