-The Mission Statement of the Presbytery of Wabash Valley

Dear Friends:

The Presbytery of Wabash Valley's Mission Statement:

Nourished by the living waters of Jesus Christ, we awaken, enliven, and enhance worshipping communities to courageously extend their branches and bear new fruit in the Spirit.

On January 10, Presbytery's Council adopted this vision statement for our Presbytery:
Serving Christ
Enhancing Congregations
Connecting Communities

We're excited to share it with you. It took time, thought, prayer and collaboration, and we're hoping it's an easy way for people inside and outside the daily conversations of the presbytery to know or be reminded of who we are and what we are called to do in this time.

We look forward to many conversations as we live out our mission and vision.

Each month, we post a series of blogs around a common topic. This month, Sarah Dianne Jones is curating a series written by our workshop leaders at the 2017 National Gathering.
What excites them about the Gathering? What are they looking forward to sharing and discussing during their workshop?
We invite you to join the conversation on Twitter!

By Dan Lewis

"It wasn't always this way," she said.
I'd called to check in on her, a longtime member of our church. I wanted to see how she was doing after the presidential election. She was ok, she said, "Trusting in God." But had I noticed, she asked, the deep sense of uncertainty around the church? Had I felt, as she had, a real reluctance to engage in conversation about these things? I had. "It wasn't always this way," she went on. "Not so long ago, we'd pull into that same parking lot, one car with blue bumper stickers and another with red, and it wouldn't be a problem at all. We'd joke with each other, even around election time, poking fun. And then we'd head off to Bible study or worship together, laughing. Now we just stay quiet most of the time. And angry."

PRAYERS of the PRESBYTERY
Before praying read MATTHEW 12:18-31

Lord God, We have just celebrated The baptism of Jesus and Epiphany.  Let these celebrations spark in us the renewal of our baptismal  vows to renounce sin and to put on  new life in Christ! May the fervor of our faith become a clear path for someone else to follow,  an epiphany of hope and faith  for them!  We pray in Jesus Christ. Amen

January prayers provided by Rev. Louis Sandos, Honorably Retired
