God Calls

Nourished by the living waters of Jesus Christ, we awaken, enliven and enhance worshiping communities to courageously extend their branches and bear new fruit in the spirit.

-The Mission Statement of the Presbytery of Wabash Valley

This issue of the e-newsletter of the Advisory Committee on Social Witness Policy (ACSWP) focuses on the upcoming General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the fate of our online justice journal,  Unbound.

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY AS A PLACE OF BLESSING;
THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE AS ONE OF ITS SERVANTS

There are fights at the General Assembly. It is not all a love-fest. But it is a place where faithful ministries are lifted up, where Presbyterians strive to apply the truths of the Gospel, and where the Holy Spirit is present, not just in worship. Even in the rush of business on the Assembly's last, often late, night, the convention hall is filled with people who are called there to listen for and obey that Spirit as conscientiously as they can. The blessing is not only there when distinguished servant leaders are honored and prayed over, like knights returning heroic to the Round Table; the blessing is there in being part of the body, participating, sharing in the work, which is inevitably frustrating at times.

PRAYERS of the PRESBYTERY

God of the earthquake...we don't understand the forces of nature that destroy and reek havoc. We are perplexed as we struggle to find the good among such pain and destruction. Give us strength to seek your presence. We cry "Woe" and "Save" as this prayer is offered.

PREPARING FOR THE GA JOURNEY

Here we are just over one week preparing for the journey to Portland, Oregon for the 222nd General Assembly. As a first time commissioner I am trying not to be overwhelmed but, keeping up with all the information has been a daunting task.

It has been a lot of reading and research to gain a better knowledge and deeper understanding of the overtures before us.  Reading  through committee material and the process of General Assembly has become a part of my routine and thought process these days.

I've talked to many people and received much mail, all have helped me to look and listen with an open mind.

It all begins with prayer. Taking time each day to  be still, and know that He is God, and do all things for Him. Reading through all the materials I ask myself , is this what we want and how does it further the Kingdom of God.

In all this I pray for God's guidance and understanding.

Blessings,
RE Mike Munson, Deer Creek Presbyterian Church

Knowing Your Community, Defining Your Mission

It is pretty easy to stay within the four walls of the church and make assumptions about the lives of the people in the broader community, but getting outside the walls is essential for the development of a faithful and robust church & mission.

PRESBYTERY OF WABASH VALLEY CHURCH MEMBERS
SEND US YOUR STORIES

Every week, we publish this eNewsletter to hundreds of Wabash Valley and PC(USA) members and also post online!  The Administrative Assistant accepts articles for entry and is always actively seeking new and original content sharing how your congregation is engaged in ministry. We would especially like to share photos and stories of your confirmands, new members, VBS,  mission trips and other special ministries that are occurring in your congregation and community.

Please forward your stories and photos to vicki@ourpresbytery.org, due each Friday.  And encourage your congregation's members to join our email list to keep up with news and events across our presbytery.  Have you considering printing a few copies and leaving them on your church's resource table for people to pick up?
