  • Rev. Dr. Mark Mueller, (Valparaiso) preached on Genesis and 1st Peter texts, challenging us to recognize and live out mission as the purpose of the church and our lives as Presbyterian Christians. Rev. Dr. Marcia Mount Shoop, (Lafayette Bethany) led the Assembly in small group conversations for an hour using Mutual Invitation to talk about and generate possibilities for shared mission to witness, meet needs ranging from local communities to Syria, Africa, regions suffering natural disasters, and beyond.

  • Assembly conducted its work in midst of worship as a response to the Word, singing and praying throughout the day:
    • Examined and approved Michael Lyle (Tampa Bay Presbytery Candidate) for ordination and installation to call to Rossville Presbyterian Church.
    • Elected Rick Ryan, (CRE, Lafayette Elston) as 2017 Vice Moderator of Presbytery.
    • Elected Chuck Compton (TE, Honorably Retired) as CPM moderator, and RE Rick Comingore, (TE, Rensselaer) and Maria Rutland (TE, Salem Center) to join CPM; Steve Quinlan (TE, Peru) as vice moderator of COM; and Kathy Staddon (RE, Rensselaer) and Terry McBride (TE, validated ministries) to Committee on Representation.
    • Charged a team with authority of commission to work with First Presbyterian Church, Crown Point: Rick Ryan, (CRE, Lafayette Elston) Hank Cox, (RE, Winfield Christ) Mark Mueller, (TE, Valparaiso) Quincy Worthington, (TE, Munster Westminster) and Jill Kitowski (RE, La Porte).
    • Voted to approve the settlement agreement that dismisses litigation brought by Church of the Good Shepherd, Winona Lake, settles claims, and dismisses that congregation to the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
    • Collected $893.00 for the Pentecost Offering.
    • Extended voting for Logo contest Click here to vote.
    • Anticipate two day-long workshops for congregations:

PRAYERS of the PRESBYTERY
O God of Continuous Surprises, on this week following Pentecost, help us to not just exegete your words of Scripture, but dare to open ourselves your promise for us to be just like those first disciples: surprised by your Holy Spirit of new life, suddenly burning in us and around us, transforming us more and more into our True Selves. Is this journey 'decently and in order?' - no, not at all! We are Presbyterians but 'we are more!' - we are Yours!  Pour it out, Lord!  Pour it out!  Life is truly ever-changing (reformed and ever reforming) by your grace and by your Spirit!  For glimpses of heaven on earth and in ourselves, and for the healing of your world, come Holy Spirit... come!

- From TE Marcia Smith-Wood, Spiritual Director

Please pray for....
  • Rev. Phil Smith, Honorably Retired, as he provides support to his sister Kathie Zaremba who has terminal cancer
  • RE Ron Miller, from Dayton Memorial who served on Presbytery Nominating Committee many years, who has cancer.
  • Rev. Ron Elly, Honorably Retired, who is recovering at The Springs at Lafayette, 2402 South Street, RM 203, Lafayette, IN 47904.
  • Rev. Ellis Gasser, Honorably Retired, who struggles with on going medical concerns.
  • First Presbyterian Church, Valparaiso as they continue to serve faithfully.
