Sharing God's Love Around the Globe
| | |
from Rev. David Lawrence, Trinity Presbyterian Church West Lebanon
The youth and adults at Trinity Presbyterian Church in West Lebanon, IN, joined together again this past holiday season to reach out to share God's love with children across the globe. The small congregation, which averages 45 attendees a Sunday, sent 66 gift-filled shoeboxes for children in two of the world's poorest countries, Malawi and Kenya in Africa, to celebrate Christmas 2015.

Trinity Presbyterian Church West Lebanon Shoebox Ministry
|
Trinity, which has supported many missions ranging from local to international, joined the Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child shoebox ministry in 2004 so the children in the church could personally experience the true blessing of giving by individually selecting items to fill their shoeboxes. Many adults in the church have been so moved by the ministry that they too have joined in to either pack boxes or donate money to cover shipping costs.
During Sunday services, stories are shared of how shoebox gifts have impacted the lives of those receiving them and how only through God's divine direction could shoeboxes packed half a world away contain just the perfect gifts needed by the recipients. The children pack their boxes, share with the congregation some of the favorite things they packed, participate in the blessing of the boxes and follow up with prayers that through the shoebox gifts the recipients know someone cares for them and experience the love of God.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their kind words and prayers during my brother's illness; it meant a lot to him and to all of us. He did not want any kind of service so the church he attended just had a regular church service, but used my brother's writings as the content. It made for a fitting memorial to him. One thing I was reminded of, they spoke of his habit of giving away bibles. This is something he did for many years. If he saw a homeless person or someone along the highway holding up a sign he would stop and give them a bible with twenty dollars tucked inside. It would include the inscription: "This money can feed you for a day; this book can feed you for a lifetime."
I hope others will join me in carrying on his ministry.
Thanks to all and God bless you.

Many thanks for all your prayers, Brothers and Sisters in Christ! Last Monday I had an outpatient procedure done at Indianapolis Community Heart Hospital. It is called cardio inversion, and it had the desired effect of correcting the heart arrhythmia that I have been having for some months. Praise be to God for good doctors and God's supreme healing!

At the Wellspring of Faith - Taize
| | |
from Rev. Barb Kenley, Central Presbyterian Church Lafayette
"The exchange with God becomes real for us in prayer: by his Holy Spirit, God comes to dwell within us. By his word and by the sacraments, Christ gives himself to us. In return, we can surrender everything to him." - Brother Alois, Letter from Cochabamba
This was what many Christians from the Greater Lafayette Area sought as they gathered Tuesday, February 16th in the sanctuary of Central Presbyterian Church for this month's community Taizé Service. Pastors Dave Comstock and Barbara Kenley led the participants and invited them to search for communion with God through communal prayer, song, silence, personal reflection and sharing.
The gentle and inspirational music provided by Jeff Stearns, emphasizing simple phrases from Psalms and other pieces of Scripture, brought peace to the spirit as they were repeated again and again. As another part of this contemplative service, worshipers draped a cross with fabric to represent the burdens they were handing over to Christ, and then lit a candle from the Christ candle as a representation of drawing their light from the One True Source.
Following the service the opportunity to engage in fellowship and sharing continued in the parlor along with the partaking of a delicious variety of desserts provided by Amy Prater. Next month, the Taizé community will worship at St.Andrews United Methodist Church.
