My Experience @ Triennium
By Bethany Diehl
Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church (Crawfordsville) Member
In 2004, I went early as part of the setup team for Triennium. One of the most memorable experiences I had was greeting the small group leaders at the Indianapolis Airport. I had a yellow sign that said "Welcome Presbyterian Youth Triennium," and everyone was glad to see me. All the small group leaders who arrived early before Triennium worked very hard to make sure that the thousands of participants who were soon to arrive would have a truly meaningful Christian experience.
Triennium was good for me in a couple of ways: As a participant at Triennium, I heard about Taize for the first time. Taize is an ecumenical community in France with a wonderful contemplative style of worship. I never could have imagined in 2004 that I would actually go to Taize on a study trip to France during my later, college years. Without being introduced to Taize-style worship at Triennium, I would never have developed an interest in Taize - nor would I have had the confidence after college to develop a Taize service at my home church.
Going to Triennium really strengthened my faith. Without my Triennium experience, I do not think that I would have enough faith to say "yes" when my home church asked me to serve, first as a Deacon, and then as an Elder.
Triennium is something that needs to be felt and heard and seen in order to truly appreciate its power. I would recommend this experience to anyone who as even the slightest interest in religion, church, people, or even if they are just looking for something to do this summer. It's an event you will never forget.

Mighty God, we pray for all your saints, for those who have gone before us, showing us The Way, for those who are serving in your churches in far flung places like Indonesia and Congo and in that other denomination down the street. We pray also for all your saints who are part of the Presbytery of Wabash Valley, and we lift up specifically the congregation of Albion Presbyterian Church.
- From TE Louis Sandos, Honorably Retired
We hold in prayer....
- All those traveling to and from Rossville on Saturday to serve as their congregations representative as they do the work of the Presbytery.
- Geneva Center, INC and their new board.
- Those who suffer in silence...
In your Holy name we pray. Amen.

When Our Screw Ups Are Met By God's Grace
February 5, 2016 Linda Kurtz by Each month, we post a series of blogs around a common topic. This month, we've asked some of our 2016 National Gathering workshop presenters to share their thoughts on their importance of their workshops in today's context. Shavon Starling-Louis is one of our presenters. Learn more about her workshop at the end of this post. We invite you to join the conversation here, on Facebook, or Twitter! by Shavon Starling-Louis "Oh crap!" "I can't believe I got myself into this situation. (.... Again.)" "I can't do this!"
Those are the words that I hear from the bell tower of my mind when the reality of my f- ahem.... flub-ups hit me like a ton of bricks.
Here's a truth about me. I fail.
And when I do, I often feel like poop.
I don't often share this sentiment so bluntly with others, but there it is - in black and white no less. On a regular basis we as leaders of faith communities find ourselves lonely, embarrassed, confused, and suffering in bad head and spiritual spaces in light of our fragility and failures.
In the church (and the wider society), we have a stigma around failing. In the PC(USA), we have a tendency to call leaders who are the best of the best. While this is generally considered a good thing, this way of thinking about leadership means we can lose the creative and spirit-led openness to new types of leaders and leadership. The "best of the best" often equates to the safest of the safe. But the other problem is that we, as leaders, internalize the pressure to be the "best of the best." Which means we feel a pressure to perform and assimilate to expected norms of what the best looks like, acts like, leads like. Continue Reading
