The Assembly of the Presbytery of Wabash Valley having directed Geneva Center to follow the trend, and the recommendation of the Presbyterian Camp & Conference Center Association (PCCCA) to create a separate entity with a separate board of directors, the new Geneva Center, Inc. (GCI) began operating on January 1, 2016. {25+% of existing Presbyterian camps & conference centers have become separate legal entities [all 501(c)(3)'s] and Geneva Center, Inc. is part of that trend.}
The new board of directors charged with managing Geneva Center as a Christian retreat, camp and conference center that continues the 51 year ministry & mission so many thousands of children and adults in NW Indiana have enjoyed since 1965 is: Jim Hubbard, RE Valparaiso, President; Rev. Kathleen O'Connell, Vice-President, Ft. Wayne; Mary Rasp, Secretary, RE Elkhart; Dave Fincher, Treasurer, RE Rochester; Carrie Munson, RE Deer Creek; Rev. John Ritchie, Huntington; Pam Camren, RE South Bend; Kim John Karlen, RE Westminster-Munster. The new board will manage Geneva Center like a Christian business, one that can be self-sustaining, and will respect the history & heritage of this wonderful place.
Key update information:
- The new Board has met three times, Dec. 16, Jan 21, Feb 2, and is getting organized to increase the usage at Geneva Center, market the many wonderful features of this woodland retreat, camp & conference center, and promote Geneva Center to new and old clients alike. The board is energized to succeed.
- Fundraising Update: To date, 87 donations totaling $36,807.50 have been received from 82 individuals and five (5) churches. Thank you to all who are helping Geneva Center, Inc. get started.
- The goal for start-up funding has not been reached and Cash Flow will be very important in the next few months as it is with all start-up businesses. It is never too late to help Geneva Center.
- Bylaws for GCI were approved and committee structure put in place that includes: Marketing, Finance, Facilities, Personnel, and Program Committees.
- Establishment of an accounting system and new internet service is complete.
- Insurance coverage has been secured working with Presbytery.
- We had a heating unit failure (surprise!) that was replaced in late January. $$$ Ouch!
- Covenant Agreement as to how we will continue to interact with Presbytery has been completed and we appreciate the continuing support we are getting from Council.
- Lease Agreement with PWV for the use of the property & facilities is nearly finalized.
- Presbytery staff will complete the move to new offices in Rochester, IN. at the end of the week.
- Summer Camp dates have been set: June 12 through July 9 (see below) and every church is invited to begin to schedule their attendees.
- Now is the time to schedule your 2016 church retreats, meetings, and events at Geneva Center....come and experience our hospitality....we are waiting to serve you.

DON'T HAVE PASTORAL LEADERSHIP? NEED SOMEONE TO SERVE COMMUNION?
Just a reminder that the Presbytery Assembly commissioned four trained and experienced ruling elders to serve communion at the request of Session for small congregations without pastoral leadership who cannot find a teaching elder to serve them on a Sunday morning. They are:
COM has corrected its November minutes and report to Assembly to require reimbursement of mileage by congregations for all travel to congregations by ruling elders commissioned to special pastoral service with minimum compensation of $100 for leading worship and preaching, and $50 for just presiding at the communion table.

 One simple thing!
One simple thing you can do to be a good steward for God of the earth is to let your dishes air dry. Most dishwashers give you the drying options of heat or air. Once done, simply cracking open your dishwasher door a couple of inches and allowing dishes to naturally air dry will save resources - and money.
Small steps add up to big changes. Reduce, reuse, recycle, and rethink. God made the earth and proclaimed it good. Take steps to act with God to preserve and further bless that goodness.
