CONFIRMED
| | from: TE John Van Nuys, Crawfordsville, Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church
|
The presbytery's January 8-10 Confirmation Retreat at Geneva Center was a wonderful experience: Good fellowship, learning, and fun plus little snow and lots of Geneva Center's signature homemade cinnamon rolls made for a perfect weekend.
The feedback we collected from the confirmands included the following comments: "I liked how fun this was and I like how much more I know about God and Jesus (Girl, 12)." "I liked making new friends and learning a lot about my Christian faith (Boy, 14)." "I liked meeting everyone and getting closer to God (Boy, 15)."
Other feedback included: "I did not like how short the retreat was. I would have liked to have more days being together (Boy, 12)." And one child on the final day asked me: "How many more confirmation retreats will there be this year that I can attend?"
We asked the confirmands what they would say to someone their age who was considering coming to the 2017 Confirmation Retreat (which is February 3-5, 2017). Here is what they said:
- It was a blast! The food was REALLY good. There are crafts that you get to do and free time is really fun! When you do stuff with Rev. Marcia, you get to use fire! J (Girl, 11)
- I think you should come because it helps you learn more about God and it's fun.(Girl, 12)
- You should come because it is so much fun and you get to learn a lot. (Girl, 13)

Confirmands (Photos compliments of Rev. John Van Nuys, Wabash Avenue PC Crawfordsville)

- I would definitely recommend this retreat. It made me understand how big a decision being confirmed really is. At first, I thought that it would be hard because I am pretty shy, but you make friends really easily. I think that if you want to be confirmed, you should definitely go to this retreat before making your decision. (Girl, 13)
- It was pretty fun. The best part was, of course, learning about God and Jesus, and, second, was the food and, third, was the Saturday night free time. I want to come back and do it again. (Boy, 12)
- Being here was awesome -- especially meeting new friends and learning so much from the kind Reverends. You get to ask questions and discuss them while learning amazing things about the Holy Trinity. (Boy, 12)
- It is a great social gathering. (Boy, 14)
- When you come here, you can learn about things that help you. (Boy, 14)
- The retreat is FUN and you learn a lot. (Boy, 15)
I hope you will include your confirmands in the 2017 Confirmation Retreat (again, February 3-5, 2017). We have designed the retreat to serve both smaller and larger congregations either as a "stand alone," "all-in-one" confirmation course or as an anchor event in a longer confirmation process.
Presbytery funding of $2,000 was essential for the 2016 Confirmation Retreat happen. In other words, your per capita support of the ministry of our presbytery helped the Holy Spirit form the faith in the rising generation through this event. For investing in the work of God that shall outlive us all in the young Presbyterians who attended the retreat, thank you.
Several of us in the retreat leadership team would like to do a fall retreat focused on hands-on mission. Our idea is to gather kids to have fun, help others, and put their faith into action. If you would like to see that happen as well, please be in touch with me: jcvchurch@att.net
On behalf of the leadership team, thank you, this presbytery, for your nurture, care, and support of our kids, who are the future. Hanging out with them confirmed in me a deep, certain trust that our future as a church is in God's own, good hands - and that future is indeed bright and blessed.

PRAYERS of the PRESBYTERY
| | |
Lord, when one of us hungers, make it our instinct to feed. When one of us is displaced, make it our instinct to share our home. When one of us is called illegal, make it our instinct to advocate for our sister's rights. May we find our peace in the peace of the places to which you have called us.
- From Common Prayer
We hold in prayer....

We give you thanks and praise to you Lord for Brookston Federated Church who has faithfully served their community and you since 1919.
In your name we pray. Amen.

NEW LOGO IDEA CONTEST
|
|
There are some changes going on at Presbytery of Wabash Valley and we want you to be a part of them!
|
WANTED: IDEAS FOR A PRESBYTERY LOGO
Inspired by the Revelation 22:1-2 scripture:
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city. On either side of the river is the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month; and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations (ethnoi).
And reflective on our Presbytery Mission Study Statement:
Nourished by the living waters of Jesus Christ, we awaken, enliven, and enhance worshiping communities to courageously extend their branches and bear new fruit in the Spirit.
We are asking for ideas for a logo, a symbol of who we are and the new way God is leading us.
We know there are many creative, inspired people in our Presbytery who may want to submit a sketch or idea which represents who we are as the people of God.
An anonymous donor will give $100 to the chosen graphic designer.
The other change we would like you to help with is renaming the weekly eNews "God Call". No prize is being offered for this but we know there are many of you with some great ideas. We would like to hear them.
Just, send your idea or design to vicki@ourpresbytery.org between now and April 1, 2016. After April 1st Council will narrow the designs to the top three which will then be posted online for your votes. May the best design win!

Just a reminder that the Presbytery Assembly commissioned four trained and experienced ruling elders to serve communion at the request of Session for small congregations without pastoral leadership who cannot find a teaching elder to serve them on a Sunday morning. They are:
