Passage to Ponder... Ephesians 3:20-21 (NRSV)
Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Summary of November 23 Special Called Council Meeting
| | |
by RE Jill Kitowski, Moderator & Member of The La Prte Presbyterian Church
Council's early Monday morning Go To Meeting was opened with prayer by Council Moderator, Jill Kitowski (RE, La Porte) at 8:00 CST. As this was the first meeting for inclusion of new Council members, introductions were made and Stated Clerk, Linda Long (RE, Valpo) assured the presence of a quorum. In 2016, we will revert to holding Presbytery and Assembly meetings in the churches of the presbytery. In January Council will meet at Rossville Presbyterian Church as a prelude to their hosting the February meeting of the Assembly. A full schedule of sites will be posted as final plans are made, and sessions vote to approve church usage.
A motion was made, seconded and passed that the Agreement for Gracious Dismissal between Calvary Presbyterian Church of Logansport and the Presbytery of Wabash Valley be accorded discussion and action by the Council. Judy Friend, (RE, Peru) Moderator of the Administrative Commission, presented a thorough summary of the 52 paragraphs of the agreement. Points of the terms were clarified by Former Moderator of the AC, David Smook (TE, HR). Discussion ensued on the absence of requested exhibits that are pivotal to the agreement. We were informed that the Session of Calvary Presbyterian voted to approve the agreement on November 22, 2015. Council amended the agreement with inclusion of the following:
"AC Calvary recommends this proposed settlement dated November 12th, 2015, to Council and to the Assembly for provisional approval. Final action and execution on behalf of the Council and Assembly shall rest on the judgement of the presbytery attorney and two officers of the presbytery that all exhibits are provided and satisfactorily completed."
The motion was passed unanimously, and we anticipate a called meeting of the Presbytery to approve the agreement. Projected date will be December 8, 2015.
Further Council business included discussion with members of the Search Committee for the Visioning/Connecting Leader Quincy Worthington (TE, Westminster, Munster), Moderator of Search Committee, and members Sarah Sanderson-Doughty (TE, Elkhart) and Sandy Carlson (RE, Michigan City.) The motion was made, seconded and passed that a ¾ time position for Envisioning/Connecting Leader be funded at $60,000 and that once in place (s)he will be part of the decision to establish a second position which will be funded at a lesser level and with an expectation of fewer hours.
The Move Team, under the leadership of Alan Griffin (TE, Goshen) reported visits to centrally located possible sites. They expect formal proposals will be received for consideration before a final decision is made.
Personnel Moderator, Sandy Carlson (RE, Michigan City) spoke of progress being made to post the position of Administrative Assistant.
Meeting was closed with prayer by Catherine Moran (TE, Schererville) at 11:05 am CST.

Lighting the Advent Wreath in the Tradition of Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love
Many churches are used to lighting candles of hope, peace, joy, and love. This is written for that tradition, using scriptures for the day from the Revised Common Lectionary.
In places where the tradition is to use families to light the Advent wreath, it is advised that family be defined by Christ-as those groups seeking to follow the Lord-not just as biological family.

Flora Presbyterian Church welcomes "de la Croix"

Musical Group "de la Croix" stops in Flora during 2015 Tour
from Barbara Mayfield, Flora Presbyterian Church
The Fontaine family: Tim, Danielle, Dylan, Cyrus, and Sydney, are a Christian band with roots in the Midwest, but who currently call California home. Twenty-five years ago, Tim and Danielle belonged to the Flora Presbyterian Church when they were brand new to the faith. This fall, they returned as mature Christians renewing old friendships and making new ones. The band refers to themselves as "musicianaries" because they are both musicians and missionaries. They tour and record music with the intent to introduce people to Jesus and encourage them to live out His plan for their lives.

De la Croix at Flora Presbyterian Church (Photo provided by Barbara Mayfield)
|
While in Flora, de la Croix ministered to the children who attend Oasis, our mid-week ministry, on Wednesday night, October 7th. The Fontaine's stated that the Oasis kids were their most enthusiastic audience EVER. On Sunday morning, October 11th they led worship for a joint service enjoyed by members of the Flora, Cutler and Delphi congregations. A carry-in meal after the service allowed for fellowship with the band and other Presbyterians.
Hosting de la Croix was easy, even for a small church like Flora. They bring all of the equipment they need, set it up, don't need a large stage, and don't charge a fee. They collect a free will offering and have CDs, T-shirts and other merchandise to sell. We encourage other churches in the area to consider hosting them when they tour again in this area. To check out their music, visit their website: http://www.de-la-croix.com.
