For Such a Time as This.... The cycle of our assembly meeting dates has brought us to the time to gather together as God's people on November 17, 2015, at Wabash Presbyterian Church at 10:00 AM EST with registration beginning at 9:00 AM and new commissioner orientation at 9:45 AM.
Our worship will be led by Rev. Dr. Jeff Cover, out-going Moderator of Council. As has been tradition, the sermon will be delivered by the outgoing Moderator of Assembly. It has been a year since our last Assembly held outside of Geneva Center. Wabash Presbyterian Church and Rev. Jonathan Cornell have graciously extended the invitation to us for this assembly meeting. As one of the recommendations of the Joshua Journey 2 Task Force, we will be meeting at other churches throughout 2016, and, at this time, we will continue our present schedule of four assemblies annually.

RE Jill Kitowski, PWV Moderator

At this assembly, we will hear from our Board of Pensions Regional Representative, Edward Thompson, as we celebrate those who have Honorably Retired. We hope that our HRs will be able to attend the special honorary luncheon.
This will also be a time to thank the many volunteers who will be completing their terms of commitment to the various committees and commissions. It has been a year of tense and anxious times as we have functioned without a General Presbyter. By God's grace we have been led by such dedicated individuals who have assumed more than the customary responsibilities of their stated positions. The Leadership Team is grateful beyond words for their passionate dedication. That is not to diminish the volunteer efforts of those who still have remaining time commitments into next year and beyond. Mindful of our past and yet looking forward to our future, we will be electing new people to positions both in leadership of the Presbytery of Wabash Valley and in leadership as commissioners to the 222nd General Assembly, meeting in Portland, Oregon, in June 2016.

This year we have pulled out all the stops to bring you a very special program, the Five Wishes. Five Wishes is America's most popular living will as it is written in everyday language and helps people express their wishes in areas that matter most - the personal and spiritual in addition to the medical and legal. It also helps you describe what good care means to you, whether you are seriously ill or not. It allows your caregiver to know exactly what you want. Companies as diverse as 3M, MTV, and the U.S. State Department have offered Five Wishes as an employee benefit. Five Wishes has been featured on the Today Show, NBC, CBS, and ABC-TV evening news programs, NPR, Time Magazine, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post and USA Today.
Join us for a continental breakfast at 8:30a.m. followed by the program which will conclude at 12:30p.m. The Five Wishes is an outreach of the Aging with Dignity non-profit agency founded by Jim Towey. Based on Mr. Towey's experience working with Mother Teresa, it has now been translated into 21 languages and implemented by more than 15,000 organizations. It helps you get THE CARE YOU WANT WHEN YOU NEED IT THE MOST. Most importantly, it recognizes our spiritual being and provides a format to share your desires with those who care about you.
This is a free program but we do require registration so we have a head count for refreshments. Please RSVP to Marilyn McMullen at 765-452-2991. We look forward to sharing this experience with you.

This NEXT Church National Gathering-timed at the beginning of Lent-will engage questions that invite us into the transformative power of reconciliation and inspire us by the stories of those witnesses who go before us. We will hear stories of reconciliation from Allan Boesak, liberation theologian and advocate for social justice in apartheid South Africa. Atlanta native, Bob Lupton will share experience to prevent charity from becoming toxic. Andrew Foster Connors, Bishop Doug Miles, and Glenna Huber of BUILD (Baltimoreans United in Leadership Development) will witness to the importance of community organizing in creating social change and reconciliation.
