Passage to Ponder... 1 Kings 17:14-16
For thus says the Lord the God of Israel: The jar of meal will not be emptied and the jug of oil will not fail until the day that the Lord sends rain on the earth. She went and did as Elijah said, so that she as well as he and her household ate for many days. The jar of meal was not emptied, neither did the jug of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord that he spoke by Elijah.

Last night the rain fell in sheets at our place. Hailstones were bouncing in the yard, the lights were flickering, and there was excitement all around. This morning, our yard doesn't look at all like August. It's green as Ireland out there and I can tell I'll need to be mowing soon. Isn't it amazing how the rain God sends renews the face of the earth? We have a Presbytery Assembly coming up, and it too, offers the opportunity for refreshment and renewal. What, you don't think of Presbytery meetings as refreshing or renewing? Well, our meeting in May in Crawfordsville was just that, as we enjoyed spirited worship, lively Bible study, and celebrated the ministry of Carol McDonald among us. Our September Assembly promises to be a similar event. This is our overnight meeting, and we'll be off to an auspicious beginning on Friday night. After 5 pm registration, we'll open things |

with a 6 pm meal during which we'll honor the 20 congregations and 15 coaches who have been involved in Transformational Ministry in the Presbytery of Wabash Valley some since 2009. After dinner, we're in for a special treat, as Dr. Atef Gendy, President of the Evangelical Seminary in Cairo will be our speaker. He will bring us greetings from the seminary and speak about its work and answer any questions we might have. A Mission Co-worker who is the International Relations Co-coordinator of the seminary will also be on hand to answer our questions. The Evangelical Seminary of Cairo is where our Mission Co-workers are located. At this Assembly, we will also be examining two people for ordination and commissioning one Ruling Elder, exciting news for the churches who are considering calling them to serve in our midst. We will also be hearing an interim report from our Joshua Journey 2 task force. They have been hard at work praying and wrestling together about the future of our presbytery. We are interested to hear their thoughts and to offer them our guidance as they complete their work in the next few months. We will also hear from our commissioners to the General Assembly in Detroit, handle some business items, enjoy worship and study Scripture together. It is my hope and prayer that your church will be represented as we gather in September. Watch for the registration information to land in your inbox later this week providing the details of overnight accommodations, meals, and cost. With anticipation, Jeff Cover, moderator |

Some Clarification from Joshua Journey 2
| | |
from RE Jill Kitowski, The La Porte Presbyterian Church and JJ 2 moderator
The work of the Joshua Journey 2 Task Force as reported in last week's Council Summary in God Calls needs to be clarified in regard to the concrete recommendations that were made. As we submitted to Council last week, we make four specific recommendations: 1) Beginning January of 2015, implementation will begin on the new structure of PWV, with full implementation by July 1, 2016; 2) Geneva Center is to be spun-off into its own non-profit corporation; 3) Frank Vardeman is to be named Transitional Exec, effective 1-1-2015; and 4) Council is to form 2 teams between the time of anticipated approval of recommendations in November, 2014 and January 2015. They are Geneva Center Transition Team and the Restructuring Implementation Team which will be moderated by Frank Vardeman and have 3 members. In order to live into our Mission Statement, approved by the Assembly, Nourished by the living waters of Jesus Christ,
we awaken, enliven and enhance worshiping communities to courageously extend their branches and bear new fruit in the Spirit. we see the Presbytery assembling more frequently (6 times a year) but with the time of each meeting to be 4 hours in length and to include Worship, Training, Meal-sharing, and Business. These meetings will normally take place in churches. We will have three working teams, each headed by a paid Coordinator: Vitality Team, Leadership Team, and Discipleship Team with each coordinator functioning on a ¼ time basis. Each team will have about 10 members and the Coordinators serve in the capacity to direct and coordinate the work, with team members being responsible for the work of the teams. The 3 Coordinators will meet monthly and be in regular communication as needed. There will be 5 trustees who will meet at least once a year and who will function as the legal entity of the Corporation, including property issues which may arise. There will be an Assembly Planning Team to include the Moderator and Vice Moderator of the Assembly, the Stated Clerk (serving as ¼ time,) 3 elected Members-at-Large and the 3 Coordinators. There will also be the Permanent Judicial Commission and a Nominating Committee. Providing support will be the Church Relations Coordinator and the Financial Consultant. More details on this model and the recommendations will be made available to you when we present at the September Assembly. Please continue your prayers for us as we move into the future of PWV. |

Properly implemented and resourced, the church financial and administrative ministry can operate efficiently in the background - providing accurate information that is both timely and transparent - in support of our mission today and into the future. In this interactive session we will share questions, experiences and practical solutions that seek to "demystify" this critical aspect of our work together.
