Passage to Ponder... Habakkuk 1:1-2
The oracle that the prophet Habakkuk saw. O Lord, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not listen? Or cry to you "Violence!" and you will not save?

The earth, at last, is warming enough for spring to arrive in northern Indiana. We are ready for it! The Bartlett pear trees are plumes of white, the flowering crab apples are a riot of color. I'm itching to get out in the garden.
In just a couple of weeks we will have our spring Presbytery Assembly in Crawfordsville. There we will be hosted by the Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church and their pastor, John Van Nuys, as they celebrate their 190th anniversary as a congregation.
We look forward to the spirited worship service they are planning with the assistance of Vice Moderator, Jill Kitowski. Retiring Synod of Lincoln Trails Executive, Carol McDonald, will be our preacher that morning. Carol has been especially dear to the Presbytery of Wabash Valley and you are invited to help us recognize her many years of service to Jesus Christ and to this denomination.
We will have an update from our mission co-workers in Egypt and the Wabash Avenue Church and the Presbytery of Wabash Valley will be receiving gifts of appreciation from our mission co-workers and the Evangelical Seminary in Cairo. We look forward to hearing from a PCUSA mission worker,

and Dr. Atef Gendy of the seminary in Cairo, at our assembly in September. Changes are in store for pastors and churches in the Board of Pensions plan for 2014-2015 and commissioners can expect to hear pertinent updates about those changes.
We will also be examining a teaching elder candidate for ordination at this meeting and the Committee on Preparation for Ministry will lead us through this process.
We will consider the naming of Administrative Commissions for two of our congregations who have requested presbytery assistance in discerning their future.
We will welcome new minister members of presbytery and recognize the retirements of some long-time servants of the church.
We will hear an interim report from the Joshua Journey II Team, which has been hard at work considering the future of the Presbytery of Wabash Valley. We will also have reports from our General Presbyter, Frank Vardeman, and our Stated Clerk, Linda Long, as well as from various entities of the presbytery. We will engage in Bible study as it guides our life together. We will hear financial reports for presbytery and Geneva Center.
All in all, it promises to be a significant time for fellowship, prayer, study, worship and celebration as a part of the people of God.
I hope that you will come and be a part of this event. We are richer by far when we meet together as sisters and brothers in Christ. I look forward to seeing you at this assembly.
Joyfully,
Jeff Cover, Moderator
Associate Pastor, Central Presbyterian Church,
Lafayette, IN
P.S. It is important that you please register for the event by Wednesday, May 14th so we can give Wabash Avenue an accurate lunch count. Watch for the invitation with registration information form later today. |

GA COMMISSIONERS TO BEGIN THE CONVERSATION OF MARRIAGE EQUALITY...JOIN US THIS SATURDAY, MAY 10th
| | |
The first of two opportunities to participate in the marriage study discussion groups will be held on Saturday, May 10, at 9 o'clock CDT at the First Presbyterian Church of Michigan City. The session will last about 2 1/2 hours.
The 220th General Assembly proposed that Presbyteries and congregations of the denomination make a study in pursuit of discernment about the broader cultural definitions of marriage as related to our Reformed Theology. To that end, two study guides evolved to course through discussions of the topic. A group of former and current Commissioners to the GA are interested in assessing the interest of those in our congregations who would attend a 2-3 hour session which would involve conversation and a theological grounding of the topic.
A second group will meet at a later date in the Lafayette-Delphi area.
Please contact the Presbytery office 574-223-5678 or email vicki@ourpresbytery.org, if you wish to add your name to the list of attendees.
