Passage to Ponder Matthew 2:1-6 (NIV)
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him." When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people's chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. "In Bethlehem in Judea, "they replied, "for this is what the prophet has written: "'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel."

Dear Friends in Jesus Christ:
I would like to take the opportunity to thank the numerous volunteers that helped to make the ministry of our Presbytery in 2013. May our spiritual growth continue to take place as some significant leadership terms have ended, while others continue and new ones begin in 2014. I look forward with joy and grace in welcoming the gift of God within and around us, inviting grace that challenges the work of our volunteers in the new ways God has in store for the future of Presbytery of Wabash Valley.
Our Nominating Committee follows through in making contacts from the Presbytery's 83 effective congregations composed of 11,085 members in 2012. Again know how grateful I am for all those participants that have made up and now elected to serve in the year ahead.
Following are noted the 2013 and 2014 Moderators so that you are aware of these specific leadership changes:

We welcome anyone interested in their possible service to the presbytery and the larger church. As you prayerfully reflect on your interest in participation, this link will provide the forms that you may submit to the Nominating Committee for their consideration. A completed slate for all responsibilities reflects a ministry of more than 126 individuals.
I would also like to encourage continued use of the Monthly Scripture and Bible Study for 2014 - this link will provide easy access to that document which is also accessible through the presbytery website www.ourpresbytery.org.
We Presbyterians are connectional. Together we are stronger in our witness for Jesus in the world than if we stand by ourselves. I give thanks for the people of the Presbytery of Wabash Valley.
Blessings of Peace,
Rev. Frank Vardeman, General Presbyter
Presbytery of Wabash Valley

Prayers of the Presbytery
God of life, we are so very thankful that you present yourself to us in so many different ways. So help us see that every act of violence between ourselves and others destroys a part of your creation. Stir in our hearts a renewed sense of reverence for all life. Give us vision to recognize your spirit in every human being. Make possible the impossible by cultivating in us the fertile seed of healing love. May we play a part in breaking the cycle of violence by realizing that peace begins with us.
We ask for prayers for the Rev. Dr. Michael Landon, Minister Member at Large and the Landon/Quinn family. Shortly before Christmas Michael lost the use of his legs due to a small, inoperable, cyst on his upper spine. He is now confined to a wheelchair and is undergoing therapy. Please keep Michael, Janet, Moriah and Juliette and Arlene and John in your prayers as they seek discernment and guidance for the future.
We ask prayers for Rev. John Van Nuys, Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church Crawfordsville, and his son Sam, as they mourn the loss of John's mother Kathleen January 2, 2014.
Prayers go out to the family of James Painter, past Presbytery of Wabash Valley treasurer, and member of Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church Crawfordsville, who passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2013.
May we continue to hold in prayer:
- Rev. Sue Babovec, Chaplain at Peabody Retirement Community, recovery
- Rev. Jack Hess, Honorably Retired, recovery
- Rev. and Mrs. Louis Sandos, Honorably Retired, January 14-25, 2014 Haiti Mission Trip
- Rev. Ron Liechty, Retired, recovery
- This weekend's Confirmation Retreat
- Our mission co-workers
- Kokomo Indiana Community, continued tornado recovery
May your loving guidance continue to be with Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church, Frankfort as they faithfully serve their community and you.
In Your name we pray, Amen.

CHURCH LEADERSHIP CONNECTION OFFERING RESOURCES FOR CONGREGATIONS AND PASTORS SEEKING A CALL
The beginning of a new year typically brings a surge of activity for congregations in search of pastors as well as for ministers and other church professionals in search of new calls.
As this year begins, the Church Leadership Connection (CLC) is offering resources to help call seekers and calling organizations find each other more easily. The CLC is the internet-based matching and referral system of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
A Face-to-Face event, January 31-February 1, at the Association of Presbyterian Church Educators (APCE) conference in San Jose, California, will bring together call seekers and representatives of congregations and other calling organizations. There is no cost to participate in the event, but participants must register by today, January 15 at http://www.pcusa.org/oga/clc/facetoface.
A Face-to-Face event is something like a job fair, says the Reverend SanDawna Ashley, coordinator of leadership development for the PC(USA) and point person for CLC. "We provide the space and opportunity for individuals to connect," she explains. The connections can range from formal interviews to informal conversations.
While previous Face-to-Face events at APCE have been limited to church educators, this year's event is open to pastors, educators, and other types of positions. Participants do not need to be registered for the APCE conference in order to attend.
Participating in a Face-to-Face event can save time and money for church organizations, Ashley says. Employers can meet with multiple candidates without the expense of bringing prospects in from out of town.
Whether or not they can make it to San Jose, Ashley encourages call seekers and calling organizations to take advantage of the process and resources provided by CLC. Updated last August, the PC(USA) matching and referral system is more efficient and user-friendly than it used to be, she says.
For more information about Church Leadership Connection or the Face-to-Face event at APCE, contact the Reverend SanDawna Ashley at 502-569-5730 or sandawna.ashley@pcusa.org.
