Passage to Ponder - Philippians 3:17-19 (MSG)
Stick with me, friends. Keep track of those you see running this same course, headed for this same goal. There are many out there taking other paths, choosing other goals, and trying to get you to go along with them. I've warned you of them many times; sadly, I'm having to do it again. All they want is easy street. They hate Christ's Cross. But easy street is a dead-end street. Those who live there make their bellies their gods; belches are their praise; all they can think of is their appetites.

A Wonderful Bonding Experience
|
by Lyle Ewing, pastor of Auburn Presbyterian Church
Presbyterians from Whitewater Valley Presbytery and Wabash Valley Presbytery flew to Cancun, Mexico, and together did construction on the Rocka Firma (Firm Rock) Presbyterian Church in Milagro, Mexico.
From July 13 - 19, fourteen Presbyterians of which eight were from Auburn Presbyterian Church built four concrete pillars measuring twelve feet high and three feet wide. All the work was done by hand using a bucket brigade to get the concrete from the mixer up to the top of the form. The mission team was able to complete four pillars during their time there.

Lyle Ewing, pastor of Auburn Presbyterian Church led the Sunday morning worship at Rocka Firma with their pastor, Rev. Eleazar Vela translating. They also had the opportunity to visit Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza.
It was a wonderful bonding experience with fellow Presbyterians from Whitewater Valley Presbytery and our brothers and sisters from the Rocka Firma Presbyterian Church which resides in the Northern Quintana Roo Presbytery.

Prayers of the Presbytery
|

Lord, God we lift our prayers of thankfulness to you. Help our hearts to be open to you as soil is to a seed so your word can flourish. May we do this in everything for roots to take hold.
Prayers are requested for Rev. Jeff Deardorff, Range Line Community Presbyterian Church, Hebron, as he prepares for August 14 surgery due to a torn rotator cuff.
Continued prayers for Frank Vardeman, General Presbyter, following complete knee replacement surgery yesterday.
We ask for continued prayers and support of our Mission co-workers for their safety as they spread the gospel to the world. We continue to pray for the safety of family and friends, for those on vacation, those returning to school, traveling to minister the sick and lonely, those who have lost loved ones and for our servicemen and women. We give thanks for Lake Village Presbyterian Church as they have faithfully served your church and ministered to their community since 1916. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

Once a ruling elder, always a ruling elder

End of term doesn't mean end of service, Barber tells National Elders Conference
Special to Presbyterian News Service
MIKE FERGUSON
LOUISVILLE
Ruling Elder Diana Barber, associate executive for leadership at the Synod of Lakes and Prairies and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis, well remembers her ordination, which occurred in 1980. "I gave myself a Bible to commemorate the occasion," she told the National Elders Conference at Big Tent Aug. 2. Barber reminded ruling elders that their constitutional responsibilities stay with them whether they're serving on session on not. "The responsibility goes with ordination, not the function of the moment," she said. "Serving on session is only one role of a ruling elder." Continue Reading
