All Things New: Look What God Is Doing!

 All Things New 2013

Summer camp is coming soon! Between Sunday, June 9th and Tuesday, July 2nd campers of all ages will experience how God wants to do a new thing with each of us, and with all of us. Through the creation, through God's presence shaping our lives, through Sabbath rest, and through how we will live for Christ, we will celebrate all the new things God is doing.

As the recruitment of the summer staff concludes, I am excited for the group of people who will lead and shape the lives of campers this summer. They are a talented group of people who will effectively and enthusiastically share God's love. There is still one male counselor position open and a couple shepherd opportunities, if you are interested please contact me at  [email protected].

The brochure and registration form for summer camps this year can be found by following this link

http://www.genevacenter.org/SummerCamp.html.

Please keep the staff and campers in prayer as we prepare and experience all the new things God will do this summer.

Range Line Community Presbyterian Church Reaching Out...
from Rev. Jeff Deardorff

Range Line Community Presbyterian Church welcomed 11 new members who shared a little about themselves and their love for the church. A wide variety of ages were represented in this enthusiastic group of new members as they talked about the church as their new family. A laying on of hands and prayer affirmed their membership.

We were excited to welcome Presbytery of Wabash Valley Commission on Ministry representatives General Presbyter Rev. Frank Vardeman along with

Elder Jim Yackel of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Munster as they discussed with the session a longer term ministry for Rev. Jeff Deardorff. It was a great discussion and Range Line Community members were very encouraged by COM.

RLCPC deacons are considering the possibilities of a

Kairos Prison MinistryThe slogan of Kairos:

"Changing Hearts, Transforming Lives, Impacting the World" is the essence of what Kairos does and is a ministry RLCPC is interested in supporting.

RLCPC is overjoyed with the growing partnership and shared ministry with First Presbyterian Church in Crown Point. We find such a wonderful benefit as we share in our youth programs and our mission trips with Crown Point.

As we approach Pentecost, we definitely felt the power of the Holy Spirit alive and working in Range Line. We give thanks to COM for their fine work as they continue to reach out to all of our churches.

Prayers of the Presbytery

LabCross

Dear Lord, thank you for the knowledge that we may trust you when it seems everything is out of control. May we recognize your presence to see you as we work toward serving others.

Rev. Louis Sandos, Minister Member Honorably Retired, expressed how blessed he has been in a wide community of praying people. He requests continued prayers as he recovers from surgery to correct a detached retina in his left eye. He expects a second surgery, but his eye needs to heal learning he has a scratched retina on the same eye.

Congratulations to Rev. Justin Schlesinger-Devlin, Memorial Presbyterian Church, Dayton, on completion of his Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Theology from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Dr. Justin Schlesinger-Devlin was good to acknowledge the many that encouraged him in his work toward this goal as reflected in Memorial Press May newsletter.

Please hold Ruling Elder Joy Bailey, First Presbyterian Church Monticello and Commission on Ministry member, in prayer for continued healing with back issues.

Lord God, we give thanks and praise for First Presbyterian Church Peru as they have faithfully served your church since 1835 sharing the good news and reaching out to those in need.

In Jesus' name, we pray Amen

Crawfordsville Wabash Avenue PC New Light Singers and Lyra Share In Sacred Music

by Rev. John Van Nuys, Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church Crawfordsville

The New Light Singers and Encores of Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church welcomed the internationally award-winning Russian a capella choir Lyra to Crawfordsville for their Indiana debut before a packed sanctuary on Tuesday April 16.  After the New Lights sang, Lyra shared sacred music of the Russian Orthodox

Lyra NLS Crawfordsville

Church and Russian folk songs as well.  Consisting of the professional vocalists from St. Petersburg's churches and opera houses, Lyra, which has toured the east and west coasts of the U.S. for twenty, consecutive years, will return to the Midwest in the spring of 2014 where they will again sing at Wabash Avenue.

If your congregation would like to explore the possibility of hosting a Lyra concert, please contact John Van Nuys at  [email protected] or (765) 362-5812.

Grant Scam Alert: PC(USA) Grant Board of Commission Grant Notices

Recently the national office of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) was contacted by people who received a mailing with a Canadian postmark and a cover letter which says "Presbyterian Church Grant." The letter includes the address of the PC(USA) national offices in Louisville, Kentucky.  The letter purports to announce that the person has been awarded a grant from the Grants Association or the Grant Board of Commission. The letter includes a check allegedly issued on an account from PNC Bank.

Anyone who receives this letter notification is warned that this letter is a fake and the grant award is a scam.  The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) does not have a Grant Board of Commission or Grants Association. Although the PC(USA) awards grants, the PC(USA) did not send out these particular grant award notices.  People who receive this notice are advised to disregard it.  The PC(USA) has notified the Federal Trade Commission of this scam and has contacted PNC Bank.

"Taste of Mission"

Range Line Presbyterian Church in Hebron and First Presbyterian Church in Crown Point are sponsoring a Mission Trip called "The Taste of Mission" on July 21-26, 2013. We are partnering with First Presbyterian Church in Benton Harbor, Michigan where we will be sharing our meals and using mats or air mattresses for sleeping on the church floor.

We will most likely be working with Habitat for Humanity or helping paint or fix up some nearby houses doing light construction. This is a chance for us to learn more about urban ministry from a very active and able congregation that has much to teach us.

Range Line and Crown Point would like to open this to the presbytery, especially to smaller churches which may not have mission opportunities. We will meet at First Presbyterian Church, Crown Point (map) on Tuesday, May 14, at 7 pm. The only cost to participants will be for food and possibly the small expense of a background check as we interface with many in the community.

If you have questions contact Les Beckman (219-663-1095) or Jeff Deardorff (720-383-8480) or email  [email protected].

The "Taste of Mission" allows flexible participation of any number of days you choose. We hope you can participate as sisters and brothers in Christ.

Blessings,

Rev. Jeff Deardorff
