February 10, The Lord's Day
Minute for Mission: Camp and Conference Ministries Hikers from Camp Hanover experiencing a "thin place" How many loaves have you?" Jesus asked his disciples-and us today. What a blessing that the PC(USA) feasts on an abundance of "loaves" at its camp and conference centers across the continent. "I'll never forget that morning at camp when we were asked to be silent until after breakfast. I don't know why, but it had a profound effect on me." We feast on the peacefulness of a new morning when we can almost hear God's footsteps. "I've never heard birds singing like I did at camp; it was like a heavenly chorus." We feast on the sounds of God's creation that surround us. "When my son was growing up, he had some rough times. Camp became that place where he could be himself and find himself. I wanted to ensure that others would have life-changing experiences like my son had. That's why I joyfully volunteer at camp." We feast on the knowledge that God uses our gifts to serve others. "This camp is a 'thin place'-a place where the distance between us and God seems very thin." We feast on the closeness we feel to God in these sacred places. "My son was planning to go on a camping trip with his friends. When told that it was the same weekend as the annual church retreat, he said, 'No way I'm going to miss that.'" We feast on the joy of Christ-centered community. You are invited to feast on the bounty of God's goodness in camps and conference centers, sacred spaces set aside for communion with God, nature, and God's people. Prayers of the Presbytery | |
Loving God thank you for your presence in our prayerful reflections. We seek your guidance always to help us practice patience. Through this Lenten season let us worship you in our thoughts, words, and deeds, knowing your help is always only a prayer away.
We are pleased to have a new addition to the family of Rev. Jonathan and Amy Cornell, Anna Catherine Grace Cornell, born 2/10/13, 8lb 7oz. Baby and mama and family are all doing wonderfully. Jonathan is the pastor of The Presbyterian Church Wabash.
Please hold Rev. Bobbi Tobin, Parish Associate Bethany Presbyterian Church Lafayette, in prayer as she recovers from surgery and continues medical treatments.
Prayers are requested for Dot Smook, Geneva Center Ministry Team Member as she seeks medical diagnosis and for Rev. David Smook, Honorably Retired as he cares for Dot.
Prayers of caring for the Reverends' Bill and Ruby Kleymann as the seek medical attention.
Prayers for traveling mercies for Rev. Marcia Smith-Wood, Spiritual Director as she is in India listening and learning. May she hear the spirit in her work together with the women of India and those whom she has gone to India with.
Remembering in prayer always those unspoken cares that we carry in hearts.
We give you thanks and praise O God for SCHNEIDER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, SCHNEIDER as they have faithfully served your church sharing the good news and reaching out to those in need. In your service we pray, Amen! |
