Passage to Ponder - Philippians 1:8-11
For God is my witness, how I long for all of you with the compassion of Christ Jesus. And this is my prayer, that your love may overflow more and more with knowledge and full insight to help you to determine what is best, so that in the day of Christ you may be pure and blameless, having produced the harvest of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ for the glory and praise of God. |

First Council Meeting of 2013 Begins the Year's Work |
 Linda L. Long, Stated Clerk
Council met at Geneva Center on Tuesday, January 22nd, to engage in deliberative discussions and key actions after study of Philippians 1: 1-11 and prayer:
- Approved recommendation from Visioning Ministry Team the proposal from Rev. Carol McDonald to lead our presbytery visioning process and allocated funds to support broad engagement with congregations across the presbytery as well as presbytery leaders.
- Process will be based upon the Study Guide developed for engaging in creative visioning and restructuring by presbyteries, reported in the Mid-Council Report to 220th GA. Carol is a co-author of that resource. You will find "The Colors of Vitality" section of the full Mid-Council Report posted at www.ourpresbytery.org on the home page.
- Transformation Ministry Team will partner with the Visioning Team to plan specifics with Carol for retreat gatherings, channels of communication with sessions and congregations as well as presbytery leaders, and other ways to interact. This is a time to discern answers to core questions like "Who are we?" "What is our mission as presbytery in our context, culture, function and needs?" Then, "What is the best structure to live out commitments to nurturing congregations?"
- Visioning planning team will meet with Carol on January 29th to refine our process and set dates to report to the February Assembly.
- Ratified email decision to host the Confirmation Retreat at Geneva Center on March 15-17, 2013. This annual retreat offers congregations an opportunity to send its confirmands away for a weekend of reflection and shared experiences with teens from other congregations.
- Rev. John Van Nuys (Wabash Ave., Crawfordsville) is leading the team of Rev. Anna Parkinson (First, Goshen), Rev. Justin Schlesinger-Devlin (Dayton, Memorial), Jim Dixon (Westminster, Munster), and Rev. Rebecca Kirkpatrick (at-large).
- Council allocated $1200 for $50 scholarships in support of participation as contribution to cost of $125 per person.
- Approved request from Rev. Rebecca Kirkpatrick to invite financial support from congregations for World Missions as she travels around the presbytery. She has been appointed co-worker for mission interpretation in Egypt by the PC (USA) and is seeking to build deeper understanding and closer relationships to World Mission through personal contacts with congregations.
- Directed that letter be sent to Church of the Good Shepherd, Winona Lake, once again inviting a meeting to mutually plan a settlement and dismissal process in accord with our policy for gracious separation.
- Approved forgiveness of money owed to presbytery by Fuzzy Bear Preschool ministry of Ladoga Presbyterian Church and legal documents necessary to transfer ownership of personal property on the premises and real estate to its new host corporation, Growing in God Church, Inc.
- Approved assignment of intangible personal property of Ladoga Presbyterian Church to the Presbytery of Wabash Valley as one more step toward final closing of this congregation. Council directed that a separate account be established to segregate those funds remaining after reimbursing presbytery for its legal and other costs of closing the congregation until the current visioning process is completed, or for at least twelve months. Administrative Commission anticipates that its work will be completed by the February Assembly.

Prayers of the Presbytery |
We thank you Lord for your continued care as you lead us in our faith to be able to share with others. May we always find ways to encourage others no matter the age as together we seek to follow your guided way.
We continue to pray for the safety of family and friends, for those traveling to minister the sick and lonely, those who have lost loved ones and for our servicemen and women.
We give you thanks and praise O God for SUNNYSIDE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH SOUTH BEND as they have faithfully served your church since July 7, 1870 sharing the good news and reaching out to those in need. In Christ's name we pray. |

Applications for small church residency program now being accepted
by Emily Enders Odom, Associate, Mission Communications
LOUISVILLE - The application process for prospective pastoral residents is now open for For Such a Time as This: A Small Church Residency-Growing Leaders, Growing Churches.
Launched by the Presbyterian Mission Agency in fall 2009, For Such a Time as This was designed to renew and grow small churches and help them to become healthy, missional congregations. The program pairs small, underserved congregations in rural, small town, and urban settings with recent seminary graduates in a two-year pastoral-residency relationship, during which they are supported and guided by a cluster of pastor-mentors. Since For Such a Time as This began, 22 recent seminary graduates are serving 26 congregations in 10 presbyteries.
