We are celebrating our 70th Anniversary. United Way believes the foundation of a happy, productive life is made up of three 'building blocks' - education, financial stability and health. United Way creates positive, lasting change through the organization's expertise, capacity and relationships.

October 29, 1942

Still reeling from the impact of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, on October 29, 1942, the Reno Community and War Chest was officially developed and established. The organization was formed to assist the United States of America's efforts as well as families on the home front affected as a result of able-bodied Reno men that were deployed and powerless to support their families and homes.

With your help we will reach the goal of $100 million raised since 1942. To celebrate, we established the $100 Million Dollar Club & invite those who give to become a "$100 Million Dollar Club" member.

Reno Community and War Chest

In 1942, a Nevada State Journal editorial suggested the time was ripe and of the essence to establish a nonprofit organization to ensure Reno resident's welfare and well-being was provided for during WWII. A committee from other associations and service groups, enthralled with the concept, embraced this proposition and met at the Chamber of Commerce located in Reno, NV.
