"Still We Are One" Preaching: The Rev. Sarah C. Stewart
First Unitarian Church is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association. The Association provides services to member congregations and acts on behalf of our liberal values in the world. Representatives from every congregation help shape these values and elect leaders. Next June, we will elect a new president: a new leader and national voice for our faith. On this Pentecost Sunday, come learn more about our faith tradition writ large and hear Rev. Sarah Stewart's hopes for the new presidency and the future of our faith movement.
We celebrate the Festival Choir's last Sunday of the season with uplifting congregational favorites: Nearer My God To Thee, Soon Ah WIll Be Done, and Let the People Praise Thee. This is one of those services that you'll definitely want to invite your neighbors to. Come early to hear the clarinet duo prelude by Noel Cary and Ken Melnick.

Thank You, Festival Choir
To celebrate the choir's last Sunday for the spring season, we have chosen congregational favorite anthems for today's service.
We are indebted to the musical contributions the Festival Choir offers in our services. Throughout the year, they spend about a hundred hours in rehearsals to bring us such meaningful and beautiful anthems each week. Please offer a kind word of appreciation when you see them around the Church.

The first week of May was so wet many of our gardeners did not get out to their gardens. Despite the inclement weather on Sunday we had a small selection of beautiful plants and we sold most of them. We anticipate a busy sale Sunday, May 15th, so please try to get out in your garden this week and dig us up some plants!

John Henry's Hammer May Concert
"Amarillo by morning, Amarillo's on my mind," croons Sten Gustavson, similarly to the song's signature balladeer, George Strait. Sten's fingers bolt across his keyboard as adeptly as a buckaroo bouncing to the jolts of a bull.
I'm very partial to the music of Cosmic Slim and His Intergalactic Plowboys. I readily admit my bias. When they play, I'm simultaneously sitting in a saloon in Bandera, Texas of times past with my present friends. I love the upbeat Texas honky-tonk, Americana music that immersed me while living 12 years in the Houston and Dallas suburbs. I think Cosmic Slim and his Intergalactic Plowboys band is as good as or better than the best Texas bands I saw in Texas!
Not only will you hear them on May 21, 2016, at John Henry's Hammer, but also the opening performers, Arny Spielberg and Melody Sizer. Both sing blues, country, and an eclectic mash.
So come have a rollicking time at JHH on Saturday night, May 21st with the Plowboys-Sten Gustavson, Bill Fisher, Bob Gordon, Phil Nigro, Rick Levine, and Tim Bowles. Doors open @ 7:00. Tickets: $15, refreshments for a nominal fee. Advance tickets at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2542935.
Please support a fabulous venue right here at First U

Everyone heads to the dining room after worship happily looking to see what edibles might be on the table. One person said..."it's either feast or famine" about what we may find. Sometimes we enjoy a bounteous spread and other times a few bits and pieces. Always we appreciate that others have thought of us and brought delicious edibles. Providing refreshments for your church friends is a lovely and much appreciated service. Why don't you ask others to share a date to help provide food with you?It doesn't have to be fancy. The Caring Circles have already signed up for dates. Please use this online sign-up calendar so others will know available dates to bring goodies. We all enjoy something to eat after worship and we call all contribute to the offering at some time.

Early Bird Coffee & Conversation
Before worship on Sunday morning some friendly folks can be found enjoying coffee and conversation in the dining room. They gather around 9:30 or a wee bit later. That's when the coffee is ready. So, show up, pull up a chair, join some talkers and help warm the place with enjoyable chatter on range of subjects. In the joyful rush for coffee and treats after worship, the busy atmosphere can inhibit opportunities to get to know others more deeply. Early bird coffee is one way to engage with friendly people. Church school teachers, those on church committees or in leadership roles are encouraged to show up periodically and converse with those gathered.
