Nominating Committee News
It is the time of year to choose leaders for positions in the church. The nominating committee, (Scott Hayman, Carrie West, Jen Reidy, and Liz Gustavson and one person to be named) have been meeting to discern candidates. In addition to our consideration of people we know, we are open to ideas and suggestions from everyone in the congregation. If you--or your friend--who are members of the church would like to be considered for a position, we would love to hear from you! Email Liz at gustavsonliz@hotmail.com or put a name into the green-covered box labeled Nominating Suggestions in the dining room.
Click here for details about the positions that need to be filled during a vote at our Annual Meeting, the last Sunday in January.

Seven Hills Camera Club Hosts Speaker Wednesday, Dec. 16 in the Chapel
The Seven Hills Camera Club will be hosting world-renowned photographer
Ron Rosenstock in our Chapel on Wednesday, December 16 at 7 p.m. First U members are invited to the club's meeting to listen to Mr. Rosenstock's talk on his travels to Cuba.
He said of Cuba, "Life in Cuba is so "alive"! It's impossible not to want to join in the fun. It's like going back in time but a time that is so alive, so full of energy. Everyone in Cuba is so full of life, it's infectious. Photographing in Cuba is capturing a time that is quickly fleeting. It's gives one a sense of urgency to convey this unique place living memories." He has made several trips to Cuba. The last one was within the past few weeks.
For information, visit the 7HCC click here . You can see some of Ron Rosenstock's Cuba photos at http://www.ronrosenstock.com/galleries/#/cuba/

Pulpit Sculpture for the Holidays A Note from Rev. Stewart
This year I invited sculptor and friend of First Unitarian Church Lynn
Simmons to lead a process to create a sculpture to adorn the pulpit during Advent, Chanukah and Christmas. Lynn has led similar processes with youth before, and brought her experience to our multigenerational community to create a beautiful painted sculpture. It is now installed in the pulpit. This sculpture is part of an effort to bring more arts into the worship life of our church through a Worship Arts Collaborative.
Lynn says of the finished work, "As I was installing it last weekend I realized how much more the painted pieces represent the woven interrelationships of a community when the pieces are assembled in a random fashion. In other words, how the experience of making connections through other connections can become a journey of faith is reflected in the process of the making and installing of this sculpture."
To me, the sculpture looks like a starry sky. There's yellow in the middle of the sculpture, and its energy reminds me of the energy of miracles in the Christmas story, or the shining of the light of the Chanukah candles. I hope you enjoy this addition to our holiday worship services.

Mary McAlister is looking for a few friends to bake scones this Sunday morning.
Would anyone like to join me this Sunday morning, Dec. 20th, at church
to bake scones for coffee hour? We will begin at 7:30am and have several batches done by 9:30am. I will bring the ingredients for the scones and copies of my recipe for you to take with you. I will ask you to bring some fresh fruit and we will make fruit platters to serve with the scones. If you haven't made cream scones before you will be surprised at how easy my recipe is. Everyone heads to the dining room after worship happily looking to see what edibles might be on the table. One person said..."it's either feast or famine" about what we may find. Sometimes we enjoy a bounteous spread and other times a few bits and pieces. Always we appreciate that others have thought of us and brought delicious edibles. Providing refreshments for your church friends is a lovely and much appreciated service. Why don't you ask others to share a date to help provide food with you? It doesn't have to be fancy. The Caring Circles have already signed up for dates. Please use this online sign-up calendar so that others will know available dates to bring goodies. We all enjoy something to eat after worship and we can all contribute to the offering at some time.
