"Reflections on a Lifetime of Faith"
Preaching: Deborah Levering, Acting Director FDM

Deborah Levering, Acting Director of Faith Development Ministries shares her personal faith journey. From six a.m. weekday Masses as a child to the seasoned Unitarian Universalist religious educator she is today, her relationship with God and faith has been a journey of misgivings, raw despair, gratitude, love, and an evolving capacity to dwell in peace. A story, a journey, and a little meditation.

James Haupt, Assistant Director of Music, will perform works by Johann Sebastian Bach on the harpsichord.

Faith Development for children, youth, and adults is an important part of our mission. Most weeks children start in the sanctuary with their families, then go to their classes after "A Story For All Ages." During the year there are occasional multigenerational services, when children and adults participate in worship together. For more information about our Faith Development programs for children, youth, and adults contact dlevering@firstunitarian.com

Sunday Greeters

Being on the receiving end of a warm smile and a "good to see you" or a "good morning" is to be offered a welcoming gift. It is a gift that you can give on a Sunday morning. Reaching out in greeting affirms the one entering and the one greeting.
If you would like to be a Sunday morning greeter, please stop by the Welcome Table or speak to one of us. We will sign you up for a date and give you the information you will need.
Coffee Hour
Refreshment after worship is a gift of service to the church. The food you bring need not be elaborate. If you would like to provide this hospitality, please stop by the Welcome Table after worship and sign up for a date. Invite a friend to join you in this offering.

If you need a name tag or would like to receive the church newsletter, please stop by the Welcome Table.

Escalating Inequality Workshops

There will be an upcoming series of 5 workshops and a movie discussion about the problem of escalating inequality in this country. At General Assembly in Providence last summer, delegates to the UUA voted escalating inequality as the most pressing issue of our time.

This is a joint project between First Unitarian Church and the UU Church of Worcester. Three events will be held here and four will be held at UUCW, 90 Holden Street, Worcester 01606. We are excited about this partnership.

The five following workshops are from the dynamic curriculum put out by the UUA and contain large and small group discussions, videos and personal inventories.

  1. RACISM and CLASSISM: Sunday March 15th at UUCW from 12:30-2:30
  2. HOW INJUSTICE DRIVES INEQUALITY: Tuesday March 31 First U 7-9pm
  3. HOW DID WE GET HERE AND WHAT WE CAN DO: Tuesday April 21 at UUCW from 7-9p
  4. THE NEED FOR DIVERSITY IN UUism: Sunday May 3 at UUCW from 12:30-2:30
  5. ENGAGING SOLUTIONS FOR UUism: Sunday May 17 First U 12:30-2:30

Chapel Makeover Project - Vote This Sunday

The Chapel will soon receive a minor cosmetic makeover. The walls will be patched and painted, an art hanging system will be installed, the carpet will be cleaned, and the windows will be washed. The art hanging system consists of a picture molding that will support a hook and a rod. This system will make it much easier to change the art displays and will also eliminate the need to damage the walls to keep art in place.

As part of the project, we are considering changing the color of the walls.  For this part of the project, we need your help. There are sample patches of some paint choices painted onto the Chapel walls now. Please take a look and then vote for the colors that you prefer. You can vote for as many as you like, but only once per color. Voting will end on March 10.

This project is funded by the Wallace Robbins Chapel Fund.  If you have any questions, please speak to Ken Mandile, Rick Silva or Madeline Silva.

Worcester Area Opioid Crisis

Sheriff Evangelidis has focused on education and prevention as the best way to keep our youth out of prison. He will talk about the rise in the use of opioid pain killers and heroin in Worcester County, a problem that has risen to crisis proportions. Heroin, once a drug only seen in poor urban neighborhoods, has moved dramatically into rural and suburban, middle class communities throughout Worcester County.

Lew Evangelidis was elected as Sheriff of Worcester County in 2010.  Prior to this, he was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives for 8 years, a member of the Holden Board of Selectmen, an Assistant District Attorney in Suffolk County, a State Attorney in Dade County Florida and an assistant in the Dade County, Florida State Attorney's office.
