Inaugural Arizona Gives Day is March 20th

Just in case you didn't hear, Arizona Gives Day is a day for Arizonans to come together to raise as much money as possible for the state's nonprofits in 24 hours on March 20. While it is a bit too late for your nonprofit to register for the first Arizona Gives Day, you still have time to help spread the word to make this event a big success. Share the news with your friends and colleagues, discover the nonprofits that have signed up for the fundraising extravaganza, and don't forget to donate to your favorite causes! Look at all of the extra cash prizes for nonprofits that are participating. This is a great opportunity for you to learn about many new organizations that are worthy of your support.

Looking@Democracy Challenge

Jim Henson Foundation Grants

The Jim Henson Foundation awards grants for the creation and development of innovative, new works of contemporary live puppet theater in the United States. Project grants of $5,000 are awarded for the development and production of new works ready to be presented in the coming year. Seed grants of $2,000 are available for the development and work-shopping of pieces in earlier stages of creation. The Foundation also offers family grants of $3,000 for new and innovative work specifically for children, families, and teenagers. Grants are provided to nonprofit organizations only; individual artists must apply through a fiscal sponsor.

Music, Education, and Grassroots Organizing

The Sparkplug Foundation primarily supports nonprofit organizations that are proposing start-up projects in the fields of music, education, and grassroots organizing. In the Music category, the Foundation supports emerging professional musicians or music-development programs. In Education and Teaching, the Foundation funds projects that deal with "the whole student" and with learning as a community activity. Through Grassroots Organizing, the Foundation encourages activist strategies for addressing institutional injustices and for building a reasoned, just society.

Arts Programs in Poorly Performing AZ Schools

The Arizona Commission on the Arts, in partnership with the Arizona Department of Education, is pleased to announce a unique funding initiative to support school-based efforts aimed at effecting change in "D" label schools. Funding will be awarded to school/community partnerships that demonstrate potential to build a school's capacity and to strengthen teaching and learning in arts education and/or arts integration. Proposed programming must take place in Fiscal Year 2014. Grant awards range from $10,000-15,000, and must be matched on a 1:1 basis.

Projects to Increase Awareness of Muslim Cultures

The Building Bridges: Campus Community Engagement program, an initiative of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters, is accepting proposals from performing arts presenting organizations based in the United States for projects designed to increase awareness of Muslim cultures. Grants ranging between $100,000 and $200,000 will support projects that expand awareness, knowledge, and understanding of Muslim societies. Eligible applicants are performing arts presenting organizations (within or collaborating with colleges or universities) interested in building interdisciplinary cross-campus and campus-community partnerships.

K-12 Arts Education Programs

Arts, Culture & Design in Schools, a charitable initiative of national retailer Target, is accepting applications from schools and nonprofit organizations for programs that bring arts and cultural experiences directly to K-12 students. The company awards grants of $2,000 for programs that enhance the classroom curricula by bringing the arts and cultural experiences to schools via in-school performances, artist-in-residency programs, workshops, and so on. Programs must take place between September 2013 and August 2014.

Economic & Workforce Development City of Tucson

The City of Tucson is soliciting competitive proposals for the delivery of eligible economic development projects and special events offered by non-profit organizations located in the City of Tucson. Educational Games for Youth

The Entertainment Software Association Foundation is seeking proposals for projects that use innovative technology and/or computer and video games to positively shape the lives of youth in the United States. The foundation supports geographically diverse projects and programs that benefit boys and girls of all races and religions. Eligible projects must be implemented or available nationwide (or at a minimum in two or more states) and serve American youth between the ages of 7 and 18. In addition, projects must provide programs and services that utilize technology and/or computer and video games for educational purposes.

Crayola Creative Leadership Grants

Crayola, in collaboration with the National Association of Elementary School Principals, is accepting applications for the 2013 Creative Leadership Grant program. The program will award up to twenty grants of $2,500 to elementary schools working to develop a team of leaders who can help increase arts-infused education within school and beyond. In addition, each program will receive an in-kind grant of Crayola products valued at $1,000. Applications will only be accepted from principals who are members of NAESP. Every school that submits an application by June 10 will receive a Crayola product Classpack.

The Safeway Foundation, the philanthropic arm of grocery-retailer Safeway, supports nonprofit organizations whose mission is aligned with the company's four priority areas: hunger relief, education, health and human services, and/or assisting people with disabilities. Education: Grants are awarded in support of youth development organizations as well as a broad range of after school and physical education programs. Grant amounts vary for organizations whose work is national in scope, but a first-time funded organization will typically receive a grant ranging between $10,000 and $25,000.

The mission of the Grants & Nonprofit Information Center is to provide information resources for nonprofit and community organizations to assist them in fulfilling their missions. You can visit us on the 3rd floor of the Joel D. Valdez Main Library in downtown Tucson.
