Local Grantmaker Supports Programs for Young Women

Unidas, a program of the Women's Foundation of Southern Arizona, is designed to give high school-aged girls hands-on experience in grantmaking. The mission for the 2013 Unidas grant cycle is to educate young women about healthy relationships and healthy body image. Special consideration will be given to programs that also address sexual health. Unidas will invest a total of $7,500 for programs that take place in the greater Tucson area.

The Tucson Osteopathic Medical Foundation awards grants of $1,000 to unique and meaningful projects that function to improve public health in the state of Arizona.

The Furthermore program will award grants of up to $15,000 to nonprofit organizations for the publication of nonfiction books about the urban experience; natural and historic resources; art, architecture, and design; cultural history; and civil liberties and other public issues. Grants can be used for writing, research, editing, design, indexing, photography, illustration, and printing and binding.

The Getty Images Creative Grants are designed to support nonprofits which do not currently have the resources to employ photographers (or filmmakers) and communications professionals but who understand how breakthrough imagery and strategic thinking about communications are essential to further their mission.

Human Rights Photography Audience Engagement Grants

The Open Society Foundations' Audience Engagement Grant program is designed to support photographers in taking an existing body of work on a social justice or human rights issue and devising an innovative and effective way of using that work as a tool for social change. To be eligible, partnerships should include a photographer or curator/project organizer whose expertise is in the production or presentation of documentary photography, and an audience engagement partner(s) with expertise in a specific issue and existing connections to the target audience. The program will provide between five to eight grants ranging from $10,000 to $30,000.

The Fred & Christine Armstrong Foundation provides support to Tucson-area nonprofits involved with the performing arts, children, and social services organizations.
