Arizona Gives Day Trainings

I've written about this before, but it's not too late to get your nonprofit involved in Arizona Gives Day, the state-wide advocacy and fundraising event on March 20th. The Community Foundation of Southern Arizona is hosting several more training events in the upcoming weeks that you should attend if you want to participate. The training times and locations are varied, so hopefully you'll be able to make it to one of these events. If you need to be convinced about why your nonprofit should get involved, please read this article.

| "Good Guys" Contest to Reward Nonprofits with $20,000 in Office Makeover | |
Deadline: February 22, 2013
Goodmans Interior Structures, an Arizona family-operated furniture dealer, is searching for "Good Guys" to reward them with a new collaborative work environment in the Goodmans' Eye for the Good Guys Board Governance Award. The award is recognizing the most effective nonprofit (501c3) boards of directors, one in Maricopa and one in Pima counties. The winners may use the prize to create a new conference room, lounge, workroom, living room or any group space that promotes collaborating.

Strengthening Performing Arts

Deadline: March 1, 2013 (Letter of Inquiry)
Through its Fund for National Projects, the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation's Fund for National Projects works to strengthen the national infrastructure of the nonprofit performing arts and/or improve conditions for the national community of performing artists in professional nonprofit dance, jazz and theater. Projects eligible for the grants should engage a broad constituency, occur once (or periodically) rather than annually, and have the potential to significantly impact their respective field.

Native American Youth Programs Funded

Deadline: March 1, 2013
First Nations Development Institute invests in innovative institutions that strengthen asset control and support economic development for American Indian people and their communities. The First Nations' Native Youth and Culture Fund provides grants of $5,000 to $20,000 for projects that focus on youth and incorporate Native culture and tradition to address issues such as drug and alcohol abuse, teen pregnancy, mental health, and other social issues.

| Encouraging International Arts Collaborations | |
Deadline: March 11, 2013
The Global Connections program provides grants to nonprofit organizations and individual artists through the following two initiatives: Global Connections: On the Road will award grants of up to $5,000 to foster new relationships with international colleagues that will inspire each other's work and aesthetics by creating opportunities for cultural exchange. Global Connections: In the Lab will award grants of $10,000 to further pre-existing international collaborations by supporting residencies that either advance the research and development of a theatre piece or explore elements leading up to a full production.

Out of State Performances Funded

Deadline: April 1, 2013
TourWest is a competitive grant program that provides subsidies to arts and community organizations for the presentation of out-of-state touring performers and literary artists. Funds are available to organizations that sponsor performances within the 13-state WESTAF region. Projects must take place between September 1, 2012, and August 31, 2013. All projects must have one public performance and one educational outreach activity. TourWest standard performance grants are available in an amount of up to $2,500 or 50% of the artistic fees, whichever is less.

Hungry for Music is a 501(c)(3) charity organization that supports music education and cultural enrichment, both in the United States and abroad, by acquiring and distributing quality musical instruments to underserved children with willing instructors and a hunger to play.

Funds for Literacy Programs

Deadline: February 28, 2013; May 23, 2013
The Dollar General Literacy Foundation supports nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and libraries that offer literacy programs. Currently the Foundation is accepting grant requests related to adult literacy, family literacy, and summer reading programs. Applications for these programs must be received by February 28. The Foundation also provides grants for youth literacy programs that must be received by May 23rd.

InvenTeam Initiative to Cultivate High School Student Creativity

Deadline: March 1, 2013 (early feedback deadline)
InvenTeams comprised of high school students, teachers, and mentors receive grants of up to $10,000 to invent technological solutions to a problem of their choice. Projects can range from assistive devices to environmental technologies and consumer goods. Applicants are encouraged to consider the needs of the world's poorest people (those earning $2 or less a day) when brainstorming ideas. STEM educators at high schools and nonprofit educational organizations who have not received an InvenTeam grant within the past three years are eligible to apply.

International Education Programs

The Weyerhaeuser Family Foundation's general program funds international projects by domestic 501c3 organizations that address the needs of at-risk youth. Programs that aid women and children are of special interest. Past grants ranged from $20,000 to $30,000.

School Libraries

Deadline: April 15, 2013
The Snapdragon Book Foundation seeks to foster children's literacy by providing financial grants to school libraries serving disadvantaged youth in the United States. Grants ranging from $800 to $20,000 have been awarded to the schools for their exemplary proposals and innovative programs.
