Update from Remus Sanctuary!

Caroline Thomas, SARA Teacher, and Fiona Mackay, Animal Reiki Teacher, have written a lovely year-end update from Remus Horse Memorial Sanctuary, which is one of the founding SARA shelters.

It has been an exciting 2012 for Remus Horse Memorial Sanctuary! In September, Remus hosted the first UK Animal Reiki classes with SARA Founder Kathleen Prasad. Everyone who was able to attend one or all of her classes had an incredible time. Kathleen is the embodiment of what Reiki should be and the way the animals responded to her was amazing. We can't wait for her to return in 2013! As a result of Kathleen's classes we have seen many new members to our little Reiki family - welcome all! Unfortunately we have been unable to meet at Remus as often as we would have liked due to various factors, not least the awful wet weather that resulted in Remus having to cancel many of their vital fundraising days.

The latter part of the year has seen huge improvements being undertaken by Remus. This year the sanctuary will celebrate its 30th anniversary! Remus has made numerous improvements: all the paddocks have been beautifully re-fenced with post & rail & electric fencing; a large paddock of hard standing has been created for a turnout area for the numerous laminitic horses; a new suite of offices and a training room have been built over the barn and the fire-escape offers a unique aerial view over this wonderful oasis. It's not just the horses that have benefited from these improvements - the sheep have a lovely new concrete area outside to make their lives easier. We're sure when you join us in the new year you will see all these fabulous changes and more!

It has been a year of ups and downs with regard to our animal friends at Remus. There have been many sad goodbyes to cope with including Sue's lovely dog Tetley who is missed by all, little Jimmy who was a real favorite and recently dear Casey. With the goodbyes of course come hellos - one miraculous one being the arrival of an unexpected lamb! Sophie, who many of you have sent Reiki to either in person or distance, is now enjoying the new hard standing and an improved quality of life! Remus recently welcomed a beautiful new larger lady (18hh Shire) called Guinness, who I'm sure you will all meet in January.

If you live in our area and are interested in finding out more about Reiki at Remus, please contact Caroline and Fiona at RemusSaraGroup@gmail.com.  If you'd like to learn animal Reiki, Caroline Thomas will be teaching a Level 1 class February 23rd and 24th and a Level 2 class June 15th and 16th.

With love and gratitude,
