Dear                     free

Here is your JB Linear Monthly Freebie.

This month's free sheet music is "Waltz" from Tchaikowsky's Album for the Young for solo woodwinds with piano. This is a good piece for intermediate players to play a waltz with the emphasis on the 2nd beat. It comes in settings for flute, oboe (or lower C instrument), B instruments (clarinet, soprano sax, tenor sax), Eb instruments (alto sax, alto clarinet), and C bass clef instruments.

These emails with freebies have been dependably going to your email inboxes for over five years. If you figure that on the average there are at least three versions of each piece, that comes out to.....192 pieces of free woodwind sheet music! Don't forget you can click on the "freebie archive" link at the left side of the page to get all of the previous pieces. Lots of people do.

Benjamin Carr, "Federal Overture" set for woodwind quintet

This piece was written during the birth of the United States of America in 1794. George Washington was in his second term as President. The overture is a medley of popular tunes of the day: The President's March, Yankee Doodle, Marseilles March, The Irish Washer Woman, Ca ira, and several more. Many of these were published for the first time in Carr's edition. Some, like Yankee Doodle, have surprising turns of phrase that seem uncommon to our ears, but this historical piece gives us an idea of the original sound of the tunes. Just for this newsletter, the price is set for $12.00 for the coming week. Then it will revert to the regular price of $15.00.

Player's quinte* of the month:

Music test answers:

Last month I found out how a clarinet works by taking it apart. I both found out and got in trouble.

Is the Saxophone a brass or woodwind instrument? Yes

A contra-bassoon is like a bassoon, only more so.

For some reason, they always put a treble clef in front of every line of flute music. You just watch.

The main trouble with a french horn is it's too tangled up.

The oboe is hard to play because its small reed doesn't let any air go through.

 Have fun playing!

Sincerely,

John Gibson
