"Two Guys," One Marketing Win - Pat Piper
Pat Piper, a former writer, creative director, and vice president at Kansas City's Barkley advertising agency, discusses the process that begot Sonic Drive-In's famous "Two Guys" campaign in 2003. It's now entrenched in KC's long and rich advertising history.

Disciples: The World War II Missions of the CIA Directors Who Fought for Wild Bill Donovan - Douglas Waller
In a discussion of his new book, former TIME magazine correspondent Douglas Waller examines four of the CIA's most famous and controversial directors - Allen Dulles, Richard Helms, William Colby, and William Casey - and the man who helped mold them.

Winston Churchill at War on the Nile - James W. Muller
James W. Muller, a professor at the University of Alaska, Anchorage, and academic chairman of the Chicago-based Churchill Centre, discusses the great British statesman's early insight into Islamism and reflections on empire, war, race, and religion.

History of African-American Cowboys - Brother John
Through storytelling and song, vocalist and cultural historian Brother John Anderson helps young audience members explore the history of African-American cowboys. Appropriate for ages 5 and up.

Indie Lens Pop-Up:
The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution

Continuing a series of films as part of the PBS-backed Indie Lens Pop-Up initiative, the Library and KCPT-TV screen the documentary The Black Panthers, which takes a clear-eyed look at the Black Panther Party and its significance to American culture. A discussion follows the film with members of the Kansas City Black Panther Party and One Struggle KC.

 



A Winter's Tale Spin Film Series: The Bard of Hollywood

In conjunction with A Winter's Tale Spin, the theme of its Shakespeare-centered Adult Winter Reading Program, the Library screens films spotlighting the Bard's life and works.

Frozen in Time: Images of Wounded Knee and Pine Ridge, 1890-91
More than 60 photos - drawn in part from the Library of Congress, Denver Public Library, Nebraska State Historical Society, and the Library's Missouri Valley Special Collections - shine a light on the controversial Wounded Knee massacre 125 years ago.
