The Long Night - Tim Matsui
Award-winning filmmaker Tim Matsui shines a light on the issue of sex trafficking with a screening of his documentary The Long Night. Following the film, he and a panel of local advocates discuss how Kansas City is combating the issue.

American Public Square: KCI Up in the Air - Scott Helm, Kevin Koster, Jon Stephens, Steve Vockrodt
The Library, in partnership with American Public Square, launches a series of mannerly discussions of polarizing local issues. Experts on both sides examine the future of the Kansas City International Airport. Remodel or rebuild? And how, exactly?

Just Let 'Em Play: Guiding Parents, Coaches, and Athletes through Youth Sports - Jeff Montgomery, Andrew Jacobs, Peter D. Malone, Matt Fulks
In a discussion of their new book, former Kansas City Royals pitcher Jeff Montgomery, Hall of Fame swimming coach Peter Malone, and psychologist Andrew Jacobs examine the problems with today's overwrought youth sports scene and how to fix them.

Children of Monsters - Jay Nordlinger
In a discussion of his new book, Children of Monsters: An Inquiry into the Sons and Daughters of Dictators, author Jay Nordlinger spotlights the offspring of 20 notorious dictators - from Stalin and Mao to Qaddafi and Hussein.

Walt Disney: Missouri's Homegrown Genius - Robert W. Butler
Longtime Kansas City Star film critic Robert W. Butler, a former writer in the Library's public affairs department and co-author of Walt Disney's Missouri, examines the impact of Disney's Missouri roots on his remarkable success.

Jay & Leslie's Laughing Matters - Stage Presents
Kansas City-area entertainers Jay and Leslie Cady apply their antics - juggling, mime, magic, and other nonsense - to the tradition of holiday gift giving. It's family fun with a bow on top. Appropriate for all ages.

The Friends of the Library
9th Annual Pre-Owned Cookbook Sale
The Friends of the Kansas City Public Library's 9th Annual Cookbook Sale offers hundreds of vintage, nearly new, and collectible cookbooks. Most are priced under $3. "Collectible" and newer books are priced from $5-15. Friends of the Library members can also take advantage of a preview sale and reception on Friday.

Cosplay Ball
Have you always wanted to portray a figure from a movie, book, or video game? The Library has a special event for you. Come in a costume and dance at the Cosplay Ball. There'll also be workshops on costume design and makeup. Appropriate for ages 12-18.

Dramatic Story Time - Coterie Theatre

Pictures of the Year International
This new Pictures of the Year International exhibition celebrates the work of the world's leading photojournalists, featuring 50 of the most arresting images from pivotal events of the past year. They range from news and sports shots to memorable feature photos and portraits.

Intimate Riot
This original exhibit, curated by internationally recognized artist Peregrine Honig, draws from scenes, descriptions, characters, and conversations in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - centerpiece of the Library's Great City | Great Read initiative.
