The Searchers: The Making of an American Legend - Glenn Frankel
Following a screening of the great, John Ford-directed Hollywood Western The Searchers, Pulitzer Prize winner Glenn Frankel discusses the true-life story behind it - a saga that started with the Comanche kidnapping of a 9-year-old white girl in 1836.

The Amazons: Lives and Legends of Warrior Women across the Ancient World - Adrienne Mayor
The tales of fierce, all-female Amazon warriors were long assumed to be a product of Greek imagination. But as Stanford University's Adrienne Mayor attests in a discussion of her deeply researched new book, Amazon-like women were very real - if mythologized.

Friday Night Family Fun - Stubby the War Dog: The True Story of World War I's Bravest Dog - Ann Bausum
Award-winning author Ann Bausum tells a true story of a terrier that wandered onto an Army training field, befriending Pvt. James Robert Conroy and accompanying him into the trenches of World War I and onto the pages of history. Appropriate for kindergartners and up.

Jason Pollen: Unfurled
Internationally renowned textile artist Jason Pollen has made Kansas City his home since 1983. This exhibit of his work, some on public display for the first time, celebrates that three-decade (and counting) chapter of his career. A second part of the exhibit will open at the Library on November 9, 2014.

Estamos Aqui (We Are Here)
This new exhibit reflects the celebrations, sorrows, challenges, and other personal experiences of 40 artists - most of Chicano-Latino heritage - who mastered the specialized silkscreen technique of serigraphy in workshops at the Austin, Texas, studio of the late Sam Coronado.

Cowtown: History of the Kansas City Stockyards
For more than a century the Kansas City Stockyards fed a hungry nation. This new exhibit features a historical treasure trove of photographs, blueprints, maps, drawings, and documents celebrating the city's great economic engine.
