Philip K. Howard, founder of the nonpartisan coalition, Common Good, discusses his book on how to fix a broken government that leaves little to no room for common sense. His solution: Set goals and boundaries instead of dictating daily choices.

On the eve of a new Kansas City festival spotlighting the region's vital role in the pork industry, a panel of craft butchers from across the country discusses sustainable pork production. A reception at 6 p.m. features locally prepared pork dishes.

Union Station's Centennial - Jeffrey Spivak
In observance of the opening of Union Station 100 years ago next month, Jeffrey Spivak draws from his book, Union Station, Kansas City, in a discussion of the landmark building's history, controversial adaptive reuse, and place in future transit and civic plans.

Jason Pollen: Unfurled
Internationally renowned textile artist Jason Pollen has made Kansas City his home since 1983. This exhibit of his work, some on public display for the first time, celebrates that three-decade (and counting) chapter of his career. A second part of the exhibit will open at the Library on November 9, 2014.

Estamos Aqui (We Are Here)
This new exhibit reflects the celebrations, sorrows, challenges, and other personal experiences of 40 artists - most of Chicano-Latino heritage - who mastered the specialized silkscreen technique of serigraphy in workshops at the Austin, Texas, studio of the late Sam Coronado.

Cowtown: History of the Kansas City Stockyards
For more than a century the Kansas City Stockyards fed a hungry nation. This new exhibit features a historical treasure trove of photographs, blueprints, maps, drawings, and documents celebrating the city's great economic engine.
