The U.S. Marshals: A Popular History of the Nation's Oldest Law Enforcement Agency - Anthony Gasaway
Real-life U.S. Marshal Anthony Gasaway discusses the history of the U.S. Marshals Service and explains how the duties performed by True Grit's fictional Rooster Cogburn compare with those assumed by members of today's U.S. Marshals Service.

What True Grit (Might Have) Looked Like: The Photographs of F.M. Steele

In the 1890s F.M. Steele chronicled cowboys at work and play on the open ranges of Kansas, Texas, Colorado, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. This exhibit of his photographs helps us envision the world in which the novel True Grit unfolds.

Guerrillas in Our Midst

This original exhibit from the Library's Missouri Valley Special Collections employs vintage photographs and illustrations to tell the story of the border conflict that raged between Missouri and Kansas before, during, and after the
Civil War.

New Compositions: The Dance Portraiture of Orval Hixon

This exhibit highlights the local legend's rich selection of photographic portraits, including images of some of the best-known dancers of his time.
