A Spooktacular Event in Downtown Morton
Register Your Business Today
The Morton Chamber of Commerce will once again be hosting a sp  ooktacular event aimed at bringing families to Downtown Morton to shop, eat and (of course) Trick or Treat! Our second annual Trick or Treat Main Street, sponsored by McDonald's of Morton, will be held on October 31st from 3:00 - 6:00 pm. The Best Decorated Business will receive a traveling trophy and a Chamber advertising package worth $300. The Best Costumed Employee will receive $50 in Chamber Checks.  The Chamber would encourage all downtown Chamber Member merchants to participate in this event by staying open until 6:00 pm that evening, handing out candy, and offering a special activity, menu, or sale at your business. Please let us know if you would like to participate so we can promote your business.

As many may know, I have accepted a position as the new CEO for the
EDC of Central Illinois. It is a wonderful opportunity to grow in my career while also continuing to support the substantial work being done by the Morton Chamber of Commerce and the Morton Economic Development Council. I will sure miss these incredible organizations and the people who have been so kind to me during my time here.

 We want to thank all of our Chamber Members and Friends who contributed to our Crowdrise Fund in support of the Joal Stanfield Family. We had 133 donations and collectively raised $12,376. Joal Stanfield's mother asked us to share her thanks with everyone who participated in the campaign. The funds will mean a great deal to Joal's wife in caring for their three young children.

Municipal elections for local offices will be held in the Spring of 2015. If you are interested in running for a local elected position, you will need to fill out the paperwork and get petition signatures in November and December of this year. The following seats will be open:
Village of Morton Board of Trustees - 3 seats will be open. Incumbents are Randy Belsley, Sam Heer, and Stephen Newhouse. 309-266-5361

Chamber Seeks Executive Director

The Morton Chamber of Commerce is seeking an experienced Executive Director to serve their business membership of 350 in Morton, a community of 16,000 located ten miles from downtown Peoria in Central Illinois.
The Executive Director reports to and works with an active Board of Directors to support local businesses and enhance the quality of life in Morton through programs and initiatives that focus on business promotion, education, and advocacy. The Morton Chamber of Commerce also organizes the Morton Pumpkin Festival, a regional festival that attracts over 70,000 to the community in mid-September each year.

Churchill Wealth Management has been providing wealth management and preservation guidance in Morton since 2001. The man who started the business, John Churchill, has a long history with the world of personal finance.
Churchill began his financial advisor career in a wirehouse program, and from there ran a bank brokerage division. After that, he set out on his own to create Churchill Wealth Management.
"I always wanted to work for myself," he said. "I enjoy working with people and the relationship-building side of that. We aim to build trust and confidence with people, which is so important in this industry."

Once again, the 4th annual Oktoberfest fundraiser to raise operating funds for the Morton Community Foundation will be a celebration recognizing the strong character and work ethics of our founding fathers, many of whom were German immigrants.
Please join us on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2014, 5:30 to 10:00 pm. The event is held at the beautiful Wildwood Farms, the home of Kris & Chuck Rinkenberger. Plan for a night of authentic German food, entertainment, and a live & silent auction. Tickets are $87.50 ea. Tables of 8 are available for $650 (save $50).

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal

The Village of Morton is holding a disposal event for HOUSEHOLD hazardous waste only at the former Farm & Fleet parking lot on Detroit Avenue from 7:30 am - 3:30 pm on October 11th. Morton residents can dispose of items otherwise prohibited in landfills and which cannot legally enter sanitary or storm water sewage systems. These include normal household, lawn and garden chemicals, paint, batteries, electronics, and other items. There is no limit on the amount of material for disposal of acceptable items, but because the service is limited to Morton residents, identification will be required for disposal.

Morton Community Bank is hosting its annual "Community Shred Day" on Saturday, October 4th from 9-11 am at the west end of the MCB Main Bank parking lot, 721 W. Jackson St., Morton. Acceptable items include: all paper items (personal, legal, medical, bank), junk mail, credit cards, folders, and magazines. (Paperclips, rubberbands, and/or staples are acceptable). This public service is FREE and in cooperation with AAA Certified Confidential Security Corporation. In return, donations of non-perishable food items for our local Morton food pantries will be appreciated. Businesses, please contact Laura Elam at MCB, 284-1205 for details and scheduling.
